Is anyone out there on Ceftin? I've been on it for a month and it seems to be working beautifully, but I haven't seen any other posts on it.

I was on ceftin for about a month and I thought nothing was happening until I realized that my fatigue was gone! I did have swollen glands thooughout the month, but that was about it.

That is great that it is working for you. I think it is an abx specific to lyme. It comes up occasionally. Did you SEARCH for it?

Very good to excellent results here, with ceftin. I did brand X 2 courses; 3rd course of ceftine was generic, with no results, not even a hint of one.

The archives of flash discuss. are loaded with detailed accounts of the results of ceftin.

Hi,

I've been on the generic version for almost two months. I did't really notice anything until I started doxy nearly a month ago. I'm not sure if it's the combo that works, or just the doxy.

I'm going to see a new dr. this coming week (yippee!!) so he may change it around or be able to give some insight to whether the ceftin is really helping or not.

But hey, If it's working for you that's great! are you on anything else with it?

Ceftin was the last antiobiotic that I took after 17 months of antibiotics constantly.

I took it for one full month, to make a grand total obviously of 18 months antibiotics.
I haven't needed antibiotics since.

It gave me vertigo out the wazoo, but I made it through. I believe that ceftin darn near put me in remission.

I would go back to it in a heartbeat, if I needed it.

I'm on ceftin and doxy. the combination works much better for me than just the ceftin by itself. My fatigue has almost gone away. I don't need a nap every day. I still have other symptoms but they are minor compared to a lot of others who are bed ridden or can't function enough to work. The brain fog I was suffering from is now being held at bay although I do have a harder time the week before my period once month.
I've read that Ceftin is an excellent drug but as always what works for some doesn't for others. I think combined with doxy is the trick.

I was on ceftin for the first two years I was sick, and had not been diagnosed yet with co-infections. It's a great drug, but is weaker than rocephin and omnicef. But that also means it's easier on your liver. Omnicef has a reputation for skyrocketing your liver enzymes.

Hey there. I am on ceftin and zithromax. I am on my 6th day of abx.

I have been on it in the past as well, but in a combo with dynabac, which i think is no longer available.

I was tingling for the first few days, but htat is getting better. I have to say i am lightheaded for the past few days, but i have also been noticing some other sx that are rearing their heads as well. I assume it is a small herx.

These are sx i haven't had since i first came down with lyme 7 years ago. Not bad..just annoying.

Anyway..did you herx at all? Lat time i was on it i was worse for a month and then slowlu i made a stedy recovery. Good luck!..jellyfish

Cefuroxime axefil ('ceftin') and doxy (500/200mg twice a day) was a very powerful combi. I had herxheimer reactions, as well as serious GI issues, but the latter proved to be a result of this poisonous painkiller (I got free samples of ..'celebrex'..-- I mean, ir was good it was free but that was definitely too high a price...).
'ceftin'/ doxy was quite the kick-@$$ combi! I was really really really sick when I started, and was only really really sick several months later, when I switched to clarithromycin and amoxicillin (500mg/3g, twice a day)

Thanks for all the responses. Although I just started with ceftin, I've been onn and off abx for 1 1/2 years now, and I'm with a "more well-versed" LLMD, at my former LLMD's referral. I'm able to do everything I want to - including running long distances and running marathons, but I just want to shake this bug once and for all, so I welcome the abx! I do very well on them, and after fighting so hard to get them from "regular" MD's, I am always very grateful as I choke them down!
About the herx...I was running a race in VT on June 5th, shortly after stopping doxy and starting ceftin and got sick - throwing up and diarrhea, hot and cold - about a two-hour episode. I thought it was food poisoning until the same thing happened on June 25th - 20 days later - now in the middle of nowhere in Wyoming! My LLMD said herxes usually aren't like that, but I guess I'll find out on July 15th! Anyway, I wish you all well! And don't forget to thank God for those LLMD's every night!

For GI stress due to all those rude abx and other things, it might well be worth it to try yarrow tea- rounded teaspoon of yarrow in a tea bag or infuser, stepp for 5+ minutes and drink it slow; bit by bit (...uh,..'yum'.... (as in, yeah, RIGHT!.., but it kept my @ out of the big H.))

Hi,

I first started tx with Doxy but then after Lyme started to rear its ugly head again and come back full force I was switched to Ceftin. I have been on Ceftin since May. I felt really good the first month and still feel what I would call as just "okay". I mean around my menstrual it gets a little rough. My tiredness seems to still be there and twitching has lessened but I'm not sure what to make of it yet. I have to be on it for another 3 months and then I will be checked by Igenex again. So far my bloodwork looks good but my immune system is lagging behind which I am told sometimes takes a little longer to catch up. The past week I am having alot of bloating and not sure if it is lower intestinal pain/uterine pain that kind of moves around. I'm not sure if it is stomach virus or lyme. Last month my period came on time and lasted for about 4 to 5 days as normal. I thought I was finally back on track but this month my period was late about 4 days and only lasted for about 2 to 3 days. Has anyone out there had stomach pain/bloating. I take Ceftin and Digestaguard plus Zoloft 50 mg.? Also take Coconut oil which seems to help. I got sick on Doxy. I could never judge if I ate enough or not whether it was going to stay down. Never thought about combo though. Maybe thats what I need a one-two punch!!! Be well everyone!

Hmmmm...!

Well, I DO seem a little more bloated at menstual times, and my LLMD asked if I had any bloating, so I suppose it could be a side effect. However, I told her that I don't have any bloating! I also would have episodes of Diarrhea on doxy, but never said a word...I STILL have this "Don't take my abx away from me" mentality! I FINALLY piped up with the wicked sunburns from doxy when I went to Florida last year and did well with Samento for a while...until I thought I was cured and stopped taking anything. I've never been one to keep close track of my periods either...they can vary in duration, and shall we say "magnitude" of severity! Ha, ha! I really wouldn't mind just popping a ceftin every day for a long, long time...just like a vitamin. I feel safe on it, and that means a lot to me. The "surprise attack" really stinks!!!! Also, reiki seems to be very helpful. Be well all!!

LemonLyme,

I know what you mean about feeling safe on antibiotics. I am looking forward to the day when I don't have to take these pills everyday. However, on the other hand I will be very scared to go off of them. But I guess one has to have faith and take the step one of these days. I am ready to kick this thing so hard in the teeth so I can just get on with things like having a baby. I also confer with you about having nasty sunburn while on Doxy. When my husband and I went to Europe on vacation in April of this past year I bought a hat especially for a boat trip that we were to go on. Well, I promptly left it at the hotel that day and by the time the boat docked back at the hotel, I felt like I was burned alive with my shirt pulled up over my head. It was not a pretty sight. LOL! A word to the wise. I know you mentioned Reiki. I am assuming your refering to massage. I go to a medical massage therapist. There is a big difference between regular massage places and medical massage therapists. Be careful, us Lymies are tender creatures.
