Can anyone please share post-delivery experiences with me? I am a chronic lyme patient who is almost 6 months pregnant; I have never felt better in my life than I do now, and everything is going along smoothly (for the baby as well - best that we can tell, anyhow!), but I have heard that after delivery, my body may shut down on me. If anyone could share some stories about what happened to them, I would really appreciate it!
Thank you very much!

You are on amoxicillin aren't you? I think that is the antibiotic that is safe for the baby. I have read that you need to be on it throughout your pregnancy to protect the baby. My daugher had a baby before she was diagnosed and the baby was born with Lyme and probably a co infection or 2 also. She has only been tested for Lyme so far. We wil see Dr. J in CT in Sept. for her. My daughter seemed to do OK after giving birth, her pregnancy was hell, but a several months afterwards she crashed big time!! I am not an expert by any means, I am just passing on our experience. I think eveyone is pretty much different. This disease is so different for everyone. Do you have a good LLMD that knows about pregnancy and Lyme? IF so, I would ask him/her.

Good luck, Bless that baby!!!

Crabby,

Some people are fine, some crash after giving birth. Hormone surges plus Lyme can flare up and you can crash. Post partum depression is common, and you must be prepared for it. It may be a good idea to get on depression meds a month or so beofre you give birth if you are worried about that. Have you been treated during your pregnancy to make sure your baby does not get Lyme? Its is very important. I know that when the baby is born you can have the cord blood and a piece of the placenta sent for testing, and then after the baby is home, you test his/her urine for Lyme.
Bicillin and Amoxicillin are most commonly used during pregnancy.
I hope you are on meds and doing well.

Hi Crabby. I tested PCR +_ at 3 monthcs Pregnant. I had alresdy been treated for lyme years before.

I went to my LLMD because of some MINOR sx during pregnancy, so he tested my PCR.I felt really good from 3 months on. I was on amox. and alicin(strong garlic) for my pregnancy.

I nursed as well, and i was on abx during that time too.

I have a healthy baby girl, checked by Dr. J in CT.

I did start having floaters in my eyes a few months after giving birth, but that could just be age. I also had tailbone pain around the same time, that no one could figure out what it was.

When my daughter was 9 months old, i relapsed with muscle aches, ocular pain, tingling, cramps, headaches, and i am sure a lot of other stuff i am forgetting.

But, i got better in a few months, although it took some time.

Good luck! Keep your chin up and best of luck with your new addition!..jellyfish

Hi Crabby. I just had my second baby in October and I was symptom free during the whole pregnancy and for 5 months after. Then one day I started with back spasms which within a week I had my full body spasms back and tingling. It really stinks because I know what it feels like to be completely healthly and happy. Now that I'm relapsing my 7 year old is very upset because she knows how well I was doing and now Mommy is feeling sick again. I hope you stay well postpartum. Please write back and let me know how you are doing.

Thank you all for your responses so far! I was just going to add that I was on quite the variety of combos of meds for a year straight before I got pregnant.... I have not taken anything since I conceived, but I am going to be meeting with a new Lyme Dr soon to see what he would have me do.... sure hope the baby does not contract this! And I am really hoping that I dont have a major crash after delivery because I dont want to miss one second of this baby's life due to this cruddy illness! Please continue to share stories (good and bad) thanks!!

Hi Pini, i know exactly what your 7 yr old is going throiugh. Mine felt the same way when i got sick after having my 2nd almost 3 years ago now.

She couldn't understand why I was fine for a long time, and then all of a sudden, mommy is sick again.

It is so frustrating to have to tell your kids youcan't do something because of all the pain, or wghatever sx it may be from one day to the next.

Best wishes to all of you! jellyfish

Wow did not think about all this but maybe that is what my problem is. I gave birth in Feb 05 and ever since I have had alot of aching, tiredness, lack of focus, digestive problems, bowel problems, balance problems does this sound like it would be from Lyme? I was dx about two years ago now and was on abx for 6 months only.

Hmmm something to think about I guess.

Crabby, Do your homework on this. In my humble opinion, you need to be on amoxicillin NOW to help prevent your baby from contracting this.

It can also be passed along by breast-feeding. Arm yourself with knowledge before seeing this dr.

And congratulations on your upcoming bundle of joy!
