I have question about potential interaction between Penicilline and Fluconazole.
My doc put me on phenoxymethylpenicillin, at the same time I am on milk thistle. I have asked the pharmacist and he says it is no problem, but they also did not mention anything when I was on both fluconazole (CYP3A4 inhibitor) and milk thistle (CYP3A4 inhibitor) and some other stuff that had to do with the same pathway, and that could definitely be problematic.
- Do you guys no of any potential interaction between these two?
- Another question, I am aware that the (tetra)cyclines should not be taken with dairy / antacids, but recently read that this goes for any anbitiotic...? Is this correct or other than on the tetracyclines, antacids / dairy does not have any effect?
I don't think that it is known what kind of interactions milk Thistle has with every med. Some meds it potentiates, and some it can reduce it's effectiveness like mepron and other anti malarials. I used to take it 3 x a day, but I cut back to just once a day and keep it at least 2 hrs away from all abx, and 4 hrs away from mepron.
It is not true that cal/mag interferes with all abx. It is good to have a drug guide book that will tell you these things in more detail. It is a good idea to take them 2 hrs apart if possible to be safe.
I have no idea if fluconazole releases toxins. I do know that milk thistle is supposed to help keep the liver happy, quite usefull when on antibiotics...
