Hey eveyone

I know this question has come up a lot of times but um, i think i transmitted lyme to my ex boyfriend before i even knew i had lyme or knew it could be sexually transmitted.

The reason im worrying is...hes been sick for a month now, first with bronchitis and right now with the flu.... I called him up and told him about the possiblity and to get tested for lyme just incase.. i hope he takes it seriously because it seems like he has lyme (he sounds like crap)

Im really upset about the possibility of me passing this horrible disease to someone i really love and care for... i know its in his own hands to be tested for it now, but do you guys think it was right of me to inform him about the possibility?

I just dont want him to have this disease...can you guys please give me some information or other experiences of this?

Thanks!
Korinne

Your awfully nice to let him know. I'm not so sure I would want to tell some of my ex's.
You told him now its his problem. I wouldn't worry about it too much. I happen to believe that probably a great deal of people have lyme and have no idea.
If I stop and think about some of my exboyfriends I wonder if maybe we both had lyme back then.
I cetainly wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

i live in PA. also. i had a "flu" -like illness the winter after my husband and i became an item in our early 20's. we lived in this old mansion, fun place, but in winter, very cold. no central heat, coal heater in the ballrm/living-dining rm. we had to let the cold water run in the powder rm to keep the pipes from freezing.

i had a fever of 105. but my mum-in-law, who lived nearby and my now husband wanted to send me for some TLC, scared me and i wanted to stay where i was happy. the internist i consulted was not much concerned.

we married and at least i, passed this on to our children. and i think about the boyfriend with alopecia. and i think about... too many yrs ago. we are probably passing different strains back and forth to each other.

but just my observation

My lyme doc believes that I passed it to my honey..he was treated with doxy and was cleared in three months.

The doc believes that perhaps the lyme that we pass on is somewhat less strong than our initial tick infections....As if our immune systems and meds have knocked some of the wind out of it prior to sharing it with a loved one.

As to informing an ex, I would. It would be hard as I would be embarassed, no matter that I shared the bug without awareness. But, I believe that the people that I may have exposed to lyme deserve the opportunity to be tested and treated. I would be furious if I were in their shoes and were left uninformed of a potentially life destroying disease.

Just my two cents worth...Do what allows you to look in the mirror comfortably...

Carol Ann

Hi and WELCOME! Get a LLMD or at least Dr that is willing to learn about lyme. "Lyme literacy" means, first and
foremost, knowing how to diagnose the disease accurately. Borrelia Burgdorferi is a clinical diagnosis, based on symptoms and on your response to treatment. Good Luck, bumpy road ahead.

You did nothing wrong, in fact you made the right decision and told him.

But you should tell him, if he is receptive, that the screening tests for lyme are very very unreliable and a better test is the Lyme Western Blot, preferably from Igenex or MDL.

Do not beat yourself up about this. You took the moral high-ground by telling him. It could have taken him months or years to figure it out, IF and that is still a big IF, he has it.

You're a good person for telling him.
