i was just wondering? I've been on the same ORAL abx since i started treatment 11 months ago. Is that unusual?

I did great in the first 5 months of treatment, which included tx for Babesia coinfection, as well I had 1x/mo. IM of Rocephin & Bicillin LA. So many of my sxs totally went away, until I was taken off the Mepron & he increased Rocephin & Augmentin.

How do you know if you plateau on meds or if you're just not getting the right combo?

I've only been on orals, doxy and ceftin for all 11 months; & Augmentin for the last 6.

After only 4 mos. of treatment for Babesia in the beginning (with Mepron), i was then put on IV Rocephin in Dec for about 2.5 mos., and then had Augmentin oral introduced in Jan.

I never saw much improvements with Augmentin abx, even before my lyme dx, when an ENT used it for my chronic sinus infection (caused by lyme).

IV or IM Rocephin didn't seem to do anything for me except make me more weak and tired than ever!

i am just curious how long on one combo before your doc switches it up?

i am going to my new llmd in 30 days, i am hoping they will try a different oral combo.

I've never had Zith or Ketek, but I notice here it's widely used. What do these abx target? Anyone think it's weird that I've only ever had orals of Ceftin, Doxy & Augmentin? Do any of these address possible cyst forms?

Is it true that your body can become resistent without different combos or on the same combo too long.

The more i read, i think my Mepron should have been taken with something else, and since I didn't, maybe that's why it's back. (I always tested pos for Babs & Erlich, along with BB)

Thanks!

ALS, you & I were on the same wave length on this one.

I too have been on only orals for last 11 months:

doxycycline/biaxin pulsing 3 days on 2 off then take other abx;
benicar for 10 months,
diflucan, & trental since earlier this month.

I'm awaiting my blood lab co-infections testing done earlier this week.

just celebrated my 1 yr. of finally being diagnosed with chronic lyme after 34 yrs. of misdx!

I've been on ceftin and doxy. My son on amoxicillin (lg. dosage) and biaxin. We both supplement with cats claw per our doctors instructions. I have read that it is a cyst buster. We take it three weeks and then a week off. The combos seems to be working well for the both of us but we may just be lucky. My white blood cell count recently was high again.

then two months on IV;

then 9 more months on orals before remission.

My doctor has had me on Biaxin and Bicillin LA for over two years. I continue to do well and am reluctant to change anything.

I definitely expect to be on orals for a long time, but I was mostly curious about how long on the SAME orals, when they seem to be ineffective.

I always hear about docs switching them until they find the right ones for you, but I didn't experience that type of tx regimen, and wondered why not.

Especially with regard to any type of abx that addresses cyst forms. I've also read here that just about everyone with chronic LD (undxd for a long time) gets some type of tx for the cyst form, which I also have not been able to try, but maybe soon with my new llmd.

i have been on and off abx for 5.5 years now.
was on zithromax and flagyl and herxes got less and less over 6 months, then bam, brick wall and symptoms started over with vengence. \

At some point you don't know if it is a herx reaction of the lyme relapse.in my case since the symptoms increased we think it is a total relapse,maybe due to abx resistance to meds.too long and abx are useless,since the bacteria mutate to resist abx.

now one ketek and flagyl and after 5 days the symptoms have gone, but actually i don't know if this is good or bad because if the abx is working i usually herx.

i would take abx till the symptoms go away for 3-4 months prior to removing abx.it may relapse but you should be on abx as short a time as possible to prevent resistance.

My LLMD says to change abx after one month if nothing is happening, or if you plateau.

If it's working,,, keep at it. I took Biaxin for 1 1/2 yrs and just kept getting better.

You should mix mepron with zith for best results. And you definitely need a cyst buster! Look out for that one! Flagyl is the most common one, and some take tinidazole.

Good luck! I hope this change is a good one for you! [oh yeah, it can only go UP, huh!?
