I am stuggling with weight from lyme. In two years 60 lbs. Hypothroid adds to it as does the meds. But am more worried about just eating to be well. Once well and I can ride horses again, the weight will go away.

What is your daily meal plan like? With bartonella back I am finding myselg craving sugar and carbs. I also some days just cannot eat anything but crackers.

I was very iron anemic for a long time and now take chromagen. I feel very sleepy after I eat, does not matter if I eat protein or a cracker or a pint of ice cream.
But the sleepiness is a new thing - not to be confused with fatigue.

I have tried the Schwarzbein stuff. Wondering what others eat on any given day that does not feed the bugs and helps your body heal.

Sorry for the long rant just to ask what you eat. Two weeks on levaquin and my head is not on straight.

Hi no2lyme, I don't have Lyme, my 24 year old Daughter does. she is such a good

little trooper.......she is on a no sugar no carb diet, she NEEDS to gain weight but

doesn't want to get yeast. so far so good. She just follows the diet plan off of Ilads

site where you get Dr. B's article. She eats no red meat mostly chicken and a few

other things. Drinks Soy dream and drinks water. She eats veggies raw and cooked.

She just found Almond butter with celery is yummy. No Fruit, nothing white. No brown rice (she used to love it) either.

Thats about it, I don't know how she does it but she does. Eating has been a problem for her for years though, so I think that makes staying on the program easier for her.

You'll definitely drop the weight if you follow a low carb, no sugar plan.

ICE's daughter's diet sounds very good for a lymie. Protein and vegetables.

Celery and almond butter IS very good!

I liked Schwarzbein's books! It's a little heavy on fats, but you can adjust it some. Good recipes!

If you're craving carbs and sugars, then you may have yeast.

I can only speak for myself here, but I do not follow a diet.

I am too thin to cut out the foods that give me energy. I eat whatever I want, and I don't have problems. That's just me though. Everybody's system handles things differently.

I do feel very good, and doctor told me to eat and drink what I want!

I have not had a yeast problem since on antibiotics, but pre-anibiotics... had it all the time! I know, it doesn't make sense.
It didn't to me either.

Sometimes your body may need what your craving. It happens with small children.

I would say...go easy on sugar though.
Everything in moderation!
Again, I'm not a doctor...just my experience.

I do have a question for anyone that can answer this.
I know blueberries are great antioxidents, so I've been eating them every day.
I've noticed at times...my body starts feeling like the bugs are biting.

Pre-blueberry days, when herxing, that would be one of my symtoms.

Is it possible that the keets are stirring?
I have no rash, and no other problems but that, and it's seems it only happens when I eat the blueberries!

Thanks for any feedback you can give me.

A diet high in vegtables and high quality protien works very well.

Green vegtables like dark lettuce, spinach and broccoli are very good. Go easy on the fruit when on abx and limit your carbs to whole grains like brown rice, oats and barley.

Lean chicken, fish and other meats are good as are eggs. Just don't think Atkin's and replace the carbs with protein, think veggies. You can't eat too many.

If you end up eating fewer calories than when on carbs you could feel tired because you're body doesn't have the carbs right there as fuel, it has to shift gears and start burning fat. A good thing if you have extra!

Replacing the ice cream and crackers with any kind of vegtable is a good start.

2003-2004 seemed I was gaining or had a lot of water retention. The last spring summer, I was so sick and nauseous w/lyme I just started dropping weight quickly.. I just started this 3-5 weeks ago.

Breakfast - couple of handfuls of organic raw almonds or 2 fried eggs

Lunch - primarily turkey and chicken with vegetables, salad

Snack - 8oz plain non-fat yogurt with or without fruit

Dinner - steak, chicken, turkey with salad and/or vegetables

I eat a pretty solid lunch and a lot of my calories probably come from salad dressing, the occasional muffin and/or bagel (I love pastry).

I don't need to gain/lose but am trying to keep my body as yeastfree as possible. Been doing this for about a month, and have been increasingly feeling better along with the addition of zith combow/doxy.

I have a long history of IBS but the lyme and abx have really made me focus on diet. I'm trying to clean up a little.

I'm with you on that one. I don't eat potato chips that much but there are times when that's all I can manage so I always keep a bag of them around. I do try to go for the natural ones that seem to have less fat. And I also eat pretzels and crackers when the nausea is bad, sometimes with some peanut butter on the crackers to get some protein in. My nausea isn't Cipro-induced, but rather just one of my Lyme symptoms and made worse by taking any substantial number of oral meds, whether they're antibiotics or not.

I try to eat something about every 2-3 hours to keep my blood sugar constant. This can help with weight loss as well, because you don't crave large meals and over eat and your metabolism can balance out.

For breakfast, I usually eat 2 hard boiled eggs and a granny smith apple or a pear. There are days I'm in a rush and eat a handful of nuts, usually pecans or almonds.

The rest of my meals vary, as they should. I try to keep nuts around my desk to snack on as needed throughout the day. I also slice up veggies to have around, and sometimes use a greek yogurt dip (tsatziki) with them. Lunch is usually some form of meat (like chicken breast) or quinoa with veggies. Quinoa is a high-protein grain.

Dinner is usually either a salad, or a few snacks similar to the rest of my day. I go to school at night, so don't have time for a "proper" dinner but snack as needed during class.

I have plain yogurt almost every night when I get home, sometimes with blueberries.

All I drink is water, tea and coffee. Lately, too much coffee. Ideally I have a cup of coffee in the morning and then just water.

All very good advice. I lost 40 lbs 18 months ago while on IV but that was just from not even wanting to breath much less eat.

Cave - our LLMD also does weight loss stuff and has been stumped by metabolic situation. I was on phentermine, Provigil, and Synthorid all at the same time and still gained weight.

As for yeast, I have been on diflucan every three days for months. Sorry ladies, but I have never had the traditional yeast infection. My body generally does not produce much.

Know for the kink in the plan - I am allergic to nuts, don't eat seafood and am so SICK of chicken. I am still iron anemic and eat red meat and spinach. I stay pretty healthy with the veggies and such. But my stomach even with nexium is just not tolerating well.

My gosh Kara that is amazing. Good for you! 150 lbs for 7 years is an inspiration in itself. 400 sit-ups is incredible, I think just sitting up in bed once is a miracle some days. But maybe I will start with 5 every 2 days.

Lyme too - maybe I will look back through the Schwarzbein book.

Thanks everyone, I have some ideas now, I know diet is so important.

Okay, the big questions - I have been sneaking coffee with soy on days I drag to work..I thought coffee was a no no for lyme.
Anyone?

I have lost a little more than 30lbs since March when I was diagnosed. I am doing a strict no yeast diet, which consists of absolute avoidance of all breads, cereals, pastas, and anything else with flour.

I will occassionally take a spoonful of hot fudge from the jar or grab a handful of chocolate chips to keep me sane (I mix them with nuts, of course).

So I mainly stick to meats (beef, pork, chicken, fish) and vegetables (broccoli, beans, lettuce, carrots, etc.)

I do drink skim milk 3 times a day and have 2 snacks per day.

I know that it is frustrating about the weight issues, so hang in there. Prior to my diagnosis I gained a lot of weight, and now with treatment it is coming off. Everyone is different and I think with my yeast free diet and antibiotics my body is finally correcting itself.

Oh, and I drink about 2 qts of plain water each day. I try to avoid soda and coffee.

If you haven't tried the yeast free diet yet you might be pleasantly surprised.

You can have certain carbs just have to be slow release like green beans, salads, tomatoes not to many,no under ground vegtables like potatoes, beets milks bad high sugars no breads unless whole wheat low sugar then not to much etc.

Stir fry veggies or steam and use butter.

No2Lyme,

When I started I could only do 3 situps a day. That was all. I lost the weight before becoming infected. At 280 you dont go on a hike!

Thanks everyone. I am going to try and find the yeast diet outline. My body is not meant to be small anyway but WOW!

I think for me it is lack of exercise. My genetic make-up is I need to be active.

Big Mamma that is great. I love the inspiration and courage that comes through.

Good health everyone - I am going to go throw out a bunch of food

My diet as of late which makes me FEEL the best is.

3 eggs onion and green peper with salt and pepper in an omlet for breakfast.

Salad with a little regular dressing throuht the day.

Marinated grilled chicken also.

Ill drink diet sodas mostlly without aspartame. I get the ones with splenda.
Waist Watchers are the best because their the cleanest.

Lots and Lots of bottled water all day.
Ill have 1-2 cups of coffee with splenda and 1/2 and 1/2 in the morning.

Other then that I cant have anything.
The breads and carbs make me weak and make my feet BURN TERRIBLE>

When Im herxing forget about it,, one teaspoon of sugar can make me burn for hours and hours,, I have to go to sleep after that.

This is from a fat kid who used to eat too much sugar!!!

I would put sugar on my cereal in the morning. I loved it...

Thats why I wonder if I have diabetes or hypoglycemia or if its all just LYME!

ANy takers?????????????????????????
