I have lost 30 lbs. in the last 2 months (from 150 to 120 lbs.) and I'm 6' 1". It is because of the low sugar diet that I am on due to yeast infection.

I just went on Diflucan for the yeast. I take the low sugar diet seriously and don't even really drink milk because of the 11g of sugar in the skim milk, or the 6-9g in the low fat yogurt.

Am I taking this to the extreme? I am now on protein supplement drinks, but I don't think this is going to sustain me.

I am getting scared of my uncontrolled weight loss. I have tried talking to my LLMD's office, but am not getting anywhere. Can anyone help? All of the weight gaining foods I feel have been taken away from me!

Thanks,

jloisu

How many calories are you consuming per day versis burning per day?
There's a calculator here: http://blueprint.bluecrossmn.com/topic/calburncalc
Even sleeping burns calories
If you're losing weight and consuming enough calories, then you might not be digesting your food or something...digestive enzymes my help, also altering your diet to foods that you can digest may help.

I've lost about 10 pounds over 6 months but I've had a lot of nausea and many days where I couldn't eat.

Beginning of last year I had the same problem. I was following the anti-yeast diet strictly and the weight loss was frightening.

At a certain point I was so scared ending up as a skeleton that I decided to allow myself to some carbs and fruit sugar sometimes.

So I have carbs twice a week (rice, quinoa or potatoes) and a fruit a day. Also I started eating carrots and other sugar containing veggies. And I added cheese.

For me it turned out that it doesn't do me any harm if I don't exaggerate. I think our body also needs some sugar and it's not good for our health to have absolutely none.

You could start slowly, trying one thing after the other and find out, how your yeast problem is reacting to it.

jloisu,

30 lbs is quite abit. Where is your energy source? Are you able to be physically active or are you?

I lost 10 in a month or two before treatment last summer. I had no problem with that mentally, but physically I was paralyzed by pain and could not do anything.

I think your concern with sugar and diet needs to allow low-glycemic index sugars. Glycemic index is the level/rate at which your body will process the sugars and push out insulin.

Carrots are high-glycemic, so if you ate a few, the insulin would be released but the drop in sugar level would be steeper.

Apples are low-glycemic, insulin gets released but takes longer to decline.

I have found that removing primarly dairy, peanuts, dried fruit has been very helpful for yeast. I still take in sugar, but very little and always after a well-balance dinner.

If you have a plain non-fat yogurt w/strawberries, blueberries this isn't going to hurt you.

I think you're limiting too much. Raw almonds... I eat lots of meats, vegetables, mmm almond butter
Pack in the protien.

Take acidopholus tabs a couple of hours after your abx. The liquid on top of the yogurt container has all of the good stuff you need to put back in your body.... don't drain it or dump it in the sink.

Keep trying,

Lisa

Eat the fat on the steak use real butter and your veggies stir fried in butter eat meat of all varieties with the fat on.I wouldnt use the protien drinks they can harm your kidneys when not eating enough.
Make sure your llmd does blood work on you every other month.

J:

I lost 56 lbs in 3 months. It was due to a combination of the anti-yeast diet and Babesiosis. It's been over a year and I have not put any of that weight back on. I have actually lost about 5 more lbs.

So, I have changed my diet to be more macrobiotic. I now include complex carbohydrates. I don't eat the fermented or sweet macrobiotic foods. I'm not much of a meat eater so I get my protein from tofu, some legumes and an ocassional protein drink.

Dairy is not great in general for yeast. If you are going to eat dairy, I would suggest using Ghee (clarified butter) and zero sugar, full fat yogurt. Chatham and Elan plain yogurts have no sugar.

You need some complex carbs for the B vitamins they supply. Some of these are: Oatmeal, Brown Rice, Amaranth, Millet, etc.

Eat lots of veggies too. I used to eat only raw veggies but, my MDs have talked me into eating more cooked veggies because the raw ones were going through me like water. I was not getting all the nutrients that I needed. Maybe lightly cook your veggies to help slow down your digestion and metabolism.

I hope this helps. I have struggled with this for about 20 months.

Bc

Following an anti yeast diet is not going to make you loose weight as long as you are taking in enough calories. Your body does not need a direct sugar source from anything. It will break down complex carbs, proteins, and fats into the sugar that it needs. This will be much better than dumping any high glycemic food source into your system.

If you are eating enough calories and still loosing weight, then it is probably from your meds. These things are tough on the body. You could be loosing weight just from the diflucan alone. You should be able to get by with Nystatin and probiatics as long as you are following the anti yeast diet.

Hi
this happened to me too...I was following the protocol of Dr Leo G. a CFS doc and had taken a lot of Diflucan and was following a strict anti Candida diet. It turned out I had Lyme and Babesia and I ended up anorexic due to the strict protocol, Babesia and no Lyme treatment. Babesia alone can cause anorexia due to the GI symptoms.

I think Dr B 's guidelines for yeast control are good and do allow yourself some dairy and carbs purely to keep your weight up e.g. things like berries in probiotic plain yoghurt, brown rice etc. so you still have a good level of nutrition.

It is possible to be too strict with your diet as I found to my cost.

take care
Emma

I look sickly thin too and the only way I can keep the weight from falling any more is with tons of organic almond butter. I put it on plain rice cakes at least once a day and then on veggies or even a spoon.

If I dont eat some carbs, like rice cakes, I get so shakey from hunger, even after eating 2# of steak or any other hi fat content food. I need a carb balance to keep me from shaking,

Even so I seldom go less than 2 hrs without eating.

I do eat some fruit every day with no problem.

I take at least 2-4 Primal Defense probiotic every day to keep my gut in good shape. Have to take them when I wake in the night for the empty tummy.

I couldn't stick with a really strict diet, just went on too long. Think you might have a look at a library book on low glycemic index foods.

Seems to make a difference what meds you are taking as to how big a yeast problem there is. You will know when you need to be more strict, and when to loosen up a little.

I lost 30 pounds and looked anorexic. But after my last babesia treatment and the disappearance of the symptoms I figured were babesia.....the weight came back. In fact, now I am back to having to watch out on fattening foods again. Can't hardly squeeze into those anorexia clothes I bought back then.

What is your babesia status? Tests don't pick up all cases since there are strains/species for which no test exists. Only way to find them is with a microscope and blood smear on a slide.

Plain, regular yogurt has much less sugar than lowfat yogurt. I get Brown Cow, which is the lowest sugars I found...and the whole milk yogurt has cream on top which is really, really decadent.

My LLMD suggested I snack on nuts to prevent weight loss. I keep them next to my desk at work. Almonds are very good for you.

As long as you are trying to prevent yeast and not eradicate it, start putting more whole, unprocessed grains into your diet.

And you may need to increase your fat intake for calories...but watch the cholesterol. Eat a little avocado with your lunch. Make three or even four egg omelettes.

I have this same problem. I went from being 130 pounds to 105 pounds. That's a 25 pound decrease. And I'm 5'4. I've been trying so incredibly hard to stick with the yeast diet, but I always lose control and end up eating sugar at the end of the day. A good thing that kills yeast is garlic. If you eat one clove of garlic a day, you will be yeast free in a week or two.

Thanks so much for all of the good advice! It sounds like many of you have been in my shoes and have made it through. From eggs, to low glycemic foods, to almond butter, to me being a little to strict, there is definately things I can change to try to stop this.

I can't afford to lose any more. The weight loss has become more devastating than the lyme at this point. Thanks so much for your support!

i have this same problem and i think for those of us with this issue, it is essential that we eat some carbs/sugars. and yes, carbs ARE important, without them the body is sent into ketosis.
