I have a question for all you wonderfuly lymie yogis.
I added amoxycillin into my regiment to target a salmonella infection, that is causing a reactive arthritis in my sacroiliac joints. I herxed badly with the new abx, and it was mostly around my lower back and referred from that area.
Ever since the herx, my body has not wanted to do shoulder stands. It just feels wrong, and I get very tired when I try.
Any ideas? Is it just the back muscles bothering me, or is there some toxic effect from the abx?
Thanks y'all.

I am so impressed that you can even do shoulder stand. That is a hard pose me. I have found recently that I cannot hold warrior pose for very long because of the leg and back pain. That is such an easy pose normally.
I don't have the answer. I would just say to be gentle and do what you can. Yoga is great. Don't push through a pose if it really doesn't feel right.
There was an interesting tidbit in Yoga Journal recently where an Yoga teacher said it took her 10 years to do shoulder stand - never felt quite right with it.

bc,
We are all so different. I've never had a problem with shoulder stand, and usually love the pose. But the warrior poses are very difficult for me to hold because they cause hip pain.

I'm pretty sure that a shoulder stand has a powerful effect on your thyroid gland. Perhaps that is why you are feeling poorly when you try it.
Also, do you do a supported shoulder stand with blankets under your neck so the vertebrae in your neck don't have too much pressure on them? I confess that I don't, because the blankets never feel right to me but I do know that should stand can put a lot of strain on the portion of your spine that runs through your neck and maybe that is connected to your lower back issues.
