I can't guarantee this will work, but it does help me most days: chelated magnesium/calcium/zinc. The combination is made by most vitamin companies, and rarely sells for more than $10.

I usually take Lunesta early in the evening, because it lasts longer than ambien, and then take broken up pieces of ambien throughout the night, if and when I snap awake.

Also, once you find the right abx combination and can start exercising again, exercise can help you sleep better.

Melatonin, or 5HTP, or prescription trazodone. I take Ambien when nothing else works.

NOT sleeping is NOT OK with me! and I understand you can't get well if you're not sleeping properly.

My son and I take Trazodone and it works really well for us.

My son had tried lots of sleep meds and they didn't work. Trazodone is the 1st sleep med that I tried.

Good Luck!

Ditto on the Trazadone!! Worked wonders for me when insomnia was severe...still often had trouble falling asleep, but once I was able to achieve sleep, the Trazadone worked really well to help me STAY asleep. Works fast, too, with less hangover effects than other Rxs I've tried.

This was one of the worst and most persistant symptoms for all of us in my house.

I even had a toddler with it.

For her, we waited till therapies kicked in, and used a homeopathic Chamomille blend called 'Calm', and Andrew Weild's healing CD.

My son and I were on Ambien for way too long, but it worked and we could not look into anything else at the time due to bigger problems.

HTP tryptophan, Melatonin, Valerian,
Kava Kava and Lobelia..
alternated, switched around, and a hot herbsal sweat detox bath at night helped allot once we were able to look into more body friendly stuff and got the infection load down some.

I also played that CD for my son after he fell asleep (as I was awake..they called me Jacob Marley..)
and when he was really ill, he listened to the Beatles 'Long and Winding Road' on continuous play for many months through the night. Music while sleeping can help. He did this instinctually and on his own accord when barely functional, interestingly..

Hope you can sleep tonight...........

Mo

Xanax .5 mg.=helps shut down my brain so I can try to sleep.

If I still need help then Ambien.

If that doesn't work, I'll take an extra Neurontin (normally I take two at night, but my neuro gave me the okay to take three at once if I need to).

If all else fails, then I try to read something, but that is rough on the eyes certain days.
