Hi I wanted to have an idea of the bart symptoms and well it is so difficult because I find the lists are so limited.
The people who have had chronic bart, do your symptoms change over time and become"unique"?
Do you find that it's highly toxic? Can anyone give me some lists of symptoms apart from the general ones?
These are mine and I'm still comtemplating whether or not I have bart and if I do then it would be of 8 years now...
*swollen neck glands
* hot spots, burns, hair is fried
* cold hands and feet, no blood circulation
* itchy eyes and irritated
*head and eye pressure*
*constant encyphalitis
*stretch marks, once purple but now white or silver on hips, thighs, and breasts
*swollen facial bones, this one's real weird and I have never heard of this symptom in very many people-swollen forehead, cheek bones, jaw, and chin
* "attack or herxes were usually every sunday or friday going on the weekends
* so 5-7 day cycle from which i feel sick every 3 hours of the day
*fevers in head and eyes
* sometimes have migraines and can't walk and feel my inner brain tissue being pulled on.
that's all I can think of now. i have a major dilemma and don't know what to do. I have a prescription for zithromax and rifampin and will start monday... can it be anyhting else htough? I'm excluding babs because of it's 3 wek cycle., also I'm not anaemic and my RBC's are fine.. What else? Ihave a 5-7 day cycle. Also is rif and zith the treatment of choice cause I've been seeing many posts on levaquin lately?
thnak so much

Can't really give you an answer, but I would caution you to start low dose and go slow on these meds. Myself I can't even imagine taking the 2 as a combo.

Zith may not be a problem, but with neuro and brain symptoms Rifampin could really knock you down.

Hubby only took total of 12 pills in 10 days I think and has been off this med for about 6 weeks now. Still not back to where he was before.

Good luck,

Never diagnosed with Bart-only Lyme, but I can certainly identify with the facial pain. I didn't have facial swelling, but all along the jaw bone, cheek bone and eyebrows was very sensitive especially to the touch. I thought it may have been due to regeneration of nerves after my Bell's Palsy. That's what one doctor theorized. But now my husband has the same symptom. He was diagnosed with Lyme three weeks ago and is on antibiotics.

I seems the stranger the symtoms the more questions we have. I hope it helps you to hear that after a year on antibiotics I am now feeling great and have lost 20 pounds on a weight loss diet (Jenny Craig) and with very slowly building up to aerobic exercise. When I feel any pain I slow way down or stop.
It seems a combo of diet, strength training and very slowly re-introducing aerobic exercise is the way to go.

Good luck to all of you. My heart goes out to you.

Meemer

Hi lynliz,

Two of my sons have bart with the purple "bart stretch marks" When the stretch marks fade or go away is your clue that the bart is under control or gone. This happened to one of my sons after being on high doses of doxy years ago. Then he was reinfected with bart and the marks came back.

You may have Babesia. Here is something I copied and pasted for you about Babeisa.

The following signs/symptoms may be present in those infected with Babesiosis:
Fatigue * Arthralgias* Myalgia* Drenching sweats* Headaches* Emotional
lability* Depression* Dark urine* Splenomegaly* Dizziness* Nausea and
vomiting* Cough* Dyspnea* Fever* Chills* Hepatosplenomegaly* Jaundice*
Malaise* Shortness of breath* Bleeding tendencies, bruising* Thrombocytopenia*
Hemoglobinuria* Hyperesthesia* Pulmonary edema* Encephalopathy* Low to
normal range leukocyte counts* Possible elevated levels of dehydrogenase,
bilirubin, transaminase* Anorexia*

Approximately 25%- 66% of Babesia patients are known to be co-infected with
Lyme disease. These symptoms may continue for long periods of time, decrease,
then return. A low Babesiosis titer (IgG) often indicates a chronic infection. An
acute or current infection may show a higher reading on the IgM test initially.
There are over 100 species of Babesia in the United States but only ONE or TWO
species are currently checked by commercial labs.

Hope this helps,
Lisi

no, i think you're right on ...the eye stuff, and the stretch marks along with teh headaches are definitely bartonella...bart loves the eye area..and you only get the stretch marks with bart...

Hi lynliz,

I have Babesia and have facial swelling around the eyes (no bones), swollen lympnodes, eye pressure, head pressure, cold hands and feet and itchy irritated eyes. (from your list) I wouldn't rule out any possible co-infection, the tests are not accurate.

Good luck to you.

Hi I'd like to thank all of you for your responses.
Meemer,
was your facial pain only caused by lyme or did you end up treating yourself for bart?
Interesting, that the silver stretch marks mean it's gone and the purple mean it's active. What if its not gone but simply inactive at the present time; does bart have the quality that lyme does, to hide ? If I had it, again it would be 8 years, so I thought to myslef that the stretch marks are in a different phaze or something and after 8 years I may have altered symptoms. Don't know if this makes nay sense.
Last year have tried clindamycin for 6 months by accident not knowing it treated babs. This is the only reaction that I got: Half of forehead turned red and felt fronzen. got major brain freeze feeling . Then rib swelling whent away.Oh and this is nasty- mucus from my forehead was coming out! Yuk. However, symptoms came back shortly while on treatment suggesting that clindamycin was "not strong enough". I've heard that people take IV clindamycin for bartonella, so if I responded like 2% I think it may simply be that it's a drug for aerobic infections and has similar properties to barty drugs I guess...My RBC"s are fine so I'm excluding babs out of the basket for now and if there's anyhtign left I'll get back to it. Anyone know anyhting about mycoplasm by the way?
Thanx for your input

bev,
I'll bet you anything you also have bart from your description...babs rarely is in the eyes...I also had babs, and bart..bart is very hard to get a positive titre on...
if your sympotms don't totally go away with babs tx I would consider bart tx like most of us had to after the babs tx....
85% of the ticks in the east have bart in them.......

and eyes and facial stuff along with her othr symptoms are very typical of bart.

bev, i have no doubt you have babs..but the eye stuff , swollen lymph nodes, and head pressure: textbook bartonella...don't forget..easy to have both...

Lisa

Sounds like bart to me. I have tested positive for bart for over two years now. Tough one, ya think you get it and whamo it is back.

I get cellulitis of the eye, only the left, and it gets all red. I have the stretchmark rash, I am very anemic, and well all of the listed stuff above.

I have to say my wildest symptom is the fever spikes. But only wild because you get delirious.

Hang in there, I have taken a lot of different combos for bart. Currently levaquin. Have not done rifampin but did IV zith for weeks and off/on orally.

Be good to yourself, in my personal experience, the bart herx comes on pretty quick. Lots of detox baths.
