I am currently on 1500 mg biaxin XL, plaquenil, quinine sulfate for a year + now. My doctor said in August he will be taking me off everything and putting me on tetricycline (sp?), I have been herxing now since July 4th, and have asked the doctor if he should change my meds now, but haven't heard back. Does anyone know if tetricycline is stronger and if I should pursue him changing my meds NOW, and if it will make a difference in treatment. I have had lyme for 3+ years but have only been on treatment for 1.5 years.

Hi Joe, I am on the quinine sulfate for the leg tightening/spasms that gets so bad my legs stiffen and can't walk without severe pain. It has helped, but now herxing. I take it 3 times a day. As for you only doing 1000 biaxin, I was on that for a year and he progressed me to the biaxin XL slow release he said which I take one in morning with a quinine, and then in evening I take 2 biaxin XL along with 2 plaquenils.

I had a terrible time on tetracycline! Not sure if it was a herx or it just wasn't doing anything for me. Doc said it was the tetracycline.
I am also on biaxin xl and plaquenil. So far...so good!
It's hard to say what works for one, and not the other. I listen to my llmd. He/she knows what's best for you. lymeloco
Consider a magnesium test, a 'red cell' test for magnesium. lyme induces a severe magnesium deficit, like approx. 30%.
see several sources/check lists for manifestations of a magnesium deficit, one of which is muscular twitching/spasms; the heart being a muscle will also suffer from thsi deficit and will manifest on an EKG.
if magnesium intake is considered, then check with doc, and/or check drug lit. for caveats against mixing magnesium intake with medicine intake, otc, and prescribed.
