since the beginning of may,i have been having cbc's done ,to monitor other med's i am taking.

anyway,my whtie blood cell count has been rising ever since i started to have it monitered.i was even taking doxy at the time.

still, the count is rising.had this infection, before my last knee surgery.still had the surgery, tho.

does anyone know,if this could be the lyme showing up? getting worse? but how?

i am going for a series of blood test's on tuesday.

will cbc test's,show lyme?increased white blood cell's indicate infection.isn't lyme an infection?

thankyou up front , gary

I have not read of a link between lyme and and a elevated WBC count.

Could you have another infection? Any fever?

Let us know the results of your coming bloodwork.

Too many reasons to mention as to why they would be elevated.

you'll be able to do the best job of getting at the meaning of the lab and other values if you get some basic texts, quick reference texts with short to moderately long explanations/reasons for high, low, and normal counts.

there must be a link that explains lab work, and medical images, and so on; combined with your physicians impressions, interpretations, you'll get the best picture

its best to consult at least several sources, as no one source will cover all reasons.

i've found excellent deals on texts i got at garage church, and synagogue sales.

Nedd to know too many specifics as to which cells counted, ratios of different kinds of cells.

with all the meds taken, prescribed, and otc, surgical procedures convalescent period, and so on really needs an expert to interpret.

a librarian, one that has a technical one w/rt finding stuff on the web would greatly expedite your findings by recommending sites on which you'll find many answers.

also, you'll need drug book/sources that will tell you what will give false positive or false negative results. surgical procedures, meds etc. will confound a non-medical persons interpretation.

for one e.g., as you probably know, glucosamine will give a false positive test for a high blood sugar; niacin and vitamin C, E, gingko, fish oils(W3 fatty acids),grapefruits(and any foods/beverages containg solenacious acids;e.g., that green 'shale'in the potatoes) can intefere with results of various kinds of lab work and operative procedures confound interpretations/results, days, weeks, even months out into the future.
A western blot is taken approx. 6 weeks AFTER an abx challenge, because it takes approx. that long to get one's antibody levels up in the blood. This is an example of the timeline(frame) anyone, not just lymies have to think in, when ill, rocovering from whatever, etc.
And it goes on, and on, and on.....ad nauseum.

Hey gary,

just checkin in. concerned to hear that you wbc is still off!

thought you were going to have blook checked last thursday? do you have any new info since I last checked in with you?

i'm sorry I don't have any info to offer you. I just don't know anything about anything.

how's the pain lately? I almost hate to ask, because I'm sure that it is a question that family and friends ask all the time. It's almost as bad as "you still sick from lyme?"

take care
thinking of you often

it was just the first appt. with onco.doc..he gave me a request form ,to have a number of blood test's.

i'll go on tuesday to have have blood test's drawn.i see the rheumy on monday.

taking the positive tissue biopsy for lyme to him.hopefully,i'll be put back on iv. abx.

as for the pain,it's away's there.just depend's on what degree,day to day.today,(sat.) was bad.

up now, because of it.i am hopeing that with iv abx, that some of the lyme arthritis pain will get under control.maybe the rsd won't be as bad.or seem that way.

stress for all this is rally getting to me.one of the blood test's is or leukeima(sp?). now there is something i don't need. stress of just worrying about that ,is keeping me up at nite.

a shot and a beer ,would hit the spot right now.but then, the keet's would like that to...

Don't have the answer, but thought I would mention that my WBC count has been low for quite a while now. Not sure why, but have noticed that side effect of some drugs does this. The Nurses PDR (used to be free online) was very good about showing what lab tests were affected by specific drugs, and how they were affected.

Was under the impression that elevated white count indicated infection fighting going on.

But lyme has found a way to deceive the immune system, so not everyone with lyme is showing these elevated counts.

Afraid to ask why you are seeing an onco.

all i wanted was to get my knee fixed.that was over 4 years ago.

now, lyme, fibro?,and rsd...do i really need this? hell no.

and the only thing i have to show for it is,100mcg duragesis patch every 48hrs ,about 100 perc's weekly, 2400mgs of neurontin daily,20 mgs of lexapro daily and 40mgs of noirtriptyline.

all this for the gawd awlful pain i deal with every day.

i have 2 positive wb's from quest.postop report sez lyme arthritis with severe synovitis.and another post op tissue biopsy, saying highly positive for lyme disease.

all this, all that the CDC request's,and i am jacked around.because no doctor KNOW'S HOW TO TREAT ME.they are all afraid.i have already had the 4 week's of ceftriaxone.that was almost 3 years ago...

i am rotting away.and they don't give a $)(!#.you bet i am pissed off.tired of the lie's....now go see a onco.....where's the bullit.....gary

for those of you who don't know me,last sentence,is a figure of speech....gary

So, are you not getting any lyme treatment?

I assume you are dealing with an HMO or some other org that cares mostly about the bottom line, not the patient's health.

What puzzles me is that in avoiding treatment for lyme, they set themselves up for having to cover the subsequent damage that can be very expensive too.

Good luck, Gary. Will be thinking about you and hoping the logjam is broken soon.

I have rather lost confidence in other areas of medicine too. Don't go off the deep end if the onco's come up with something. They can make mistakes too.

Gary,

Sent you an email.

Hubby's 1st thought was that maybe the knee surgery stirred up the Lyme and you have an infection at the surgery site.

Also, don't be in a hurry to schedule knee replacement surgery unless you have had an injury of some sort. If the problem is Lyme, surgery will not make you well. It might help with the pain, but the bb will still be in your body and will cause other symptoms.

There is a new procedure I have heard about -- don't know the name of it -- where they inject something into the joint to cushion it -- not sure what -- instead of doing surgery. Maybe it's jello ??? LOL

I just wanted to wish you all the best tomorrow! Going through this Lyme junk is the most awful thing I have done. It doesn't help when you cant find dr's that are truly willing to help you-most of them just simply don't know how too!!!

Just wanted to let you know you are not alone. Ill be starting IV antibiotics soon myself-oh joy looking forward to that.

I hope your blood tests come out ok. My white count usually runs low. For years I tried to make dr's take that more seriously and they just wouldn't. Turns out the Lyme was messing with my CBC-still does too.
