I have been battling lyme for 3 years now. It started out with severe neurological symptoms that rapidly damaged my body. (Pain, weakness, atrophy, burning, tingling, stabbing pain, ear ringing etc.) It took 2 years to find an LLMD, get a positive WB, and proper treatment. I have been on amox and probenicid for 4 months now. Some symptoms have improved (pain, bowel and bladder) but it seems like it is just stopping it from getting worse. Will I ever get to the point where I start to regain my mobility and function near normal? Posts: 44 | From Canada | Registered: Jan 2005

You may need to take a combination of ABX, adding either Zithromax or Biaxin.
I would suggest fiding out the views of your LLMD on this subject.

Yes, I'm much better than I expected to be. I had resigned myself to some pain and mental impairment, but I'm nearly 100% mentally and about 90% physically. I'm playing too hard, but too bad, fun is important too.
I seems to take forever to feel alot better, but now that you are on good treatment the improvements should be steady. I do have more problems when it is cold out, but hopefully this shall be less of an issue in the future.

I was very sick, alot of neuro, arthritic pain, diagnosed w/lupus and felt like I was getting alzheimers. I was incredibly fatigued and had no idea why people made plans.
After 3 mo of abx my mind started to clear, and I started to want to do things. At 6 Mo I was more improved but still wary of making plans even to go to a movie. It was truly day by day.
At 18 months I feel I turned the 1st big curve. By 3 years later (now), I feel almost totally recovered. Sat. at 7 I woke my husband to do a bike trail ride, 5 miles w/hills! Over the last few months I have gotten my house back in order since I can mentally assess a project and not take on too much. I used to start projects and have them all waiting to be done . .. and then I was miserable.
Getting my neuro clear was the slowest. I now have the energy and mental clarity to have a good day almost every day.
4 months of abx is a good start, w/the right supplements and good diet, you have a great chance at recovery. Hang in there!
I started treatment over a year ago, at the time: I couldn't drive anymore, I had to hold to walls to walk without getting totally dizzy, Couldn't follow a conversation longer than 2 minutes, Couldn't express myself because I had a complete word block, Couldn't even balance my checkbook and I had been a bookeeper/office manager for many years; etc, etc, etc
Everything just went down to h.......l in a matter of days, everyday there was something else that I couldn't do anymore.
After six month into treatment, I started to turn the corner and I keep going from there; I still have a way to go but little by little, I am getting there.
Don't give up, YOU WILL GET BETTER BUT treatment is not a walk in the park; sometimes is a trip to the house of horrors; in my case it was when I initially started treatment for babesia; but now it's not so hard.
Your symptoms and time frame are similar to mine. Ask your LLMD about Rif and Biaxin.
Also have you considered Rife?
There is always hope.
You will get better.
Don't get deceived when you are in pain.
Pain removes hope, robs your soul. Do positive self talk and tell yourself that you WILL find treatments that will return you to being whole once again.
I know the pain of burning and stabbing. It feels as tho you are an electrical circuit gone haywire. Terrible pain.
Even if you have one hr of feeling better, less pain. Chart it in a journal and read that when you feel really bad.
