I need some input really quickly here.......my daughter just fell on the floor writhing in pain saying it felt like someone was pounding the bones in her legs from the Knee down to her toes with a hammer.

This is someone who never cries from pain and she is just crying and crying. She is on Ketek, and Plaquenil right now and Diamox.

It came on all of a sudden, she just started Plaquenil 4 days ago, is this maybe a reason for the pain...........

Any ideas as to how to help the pain subside???? HELP!!

Hey ICE..:

When I was put on levaquin -along with mepron-zithro-omnicef- I got the pain you are describing on your daughter. It felt like drilling/burning along the bone, it will come and go, many times woke me up on the middle of the night and I will just roll on the middle of the floor.

The only thing that helped with the pain was walking; the good news is that after 3 months of levaquin plus another abx the pain is gone; I still get a small -petite- version of this pain on my thumbs.

Did you ask your daughter's LLMD about this pain?

Take care,
Lymster

Just wanted you to know that I just got off the phone with my daughter and she is in a lot of pain too...just like yours. I am so sorry, because I know how helpless you feel, cause I am feeling that way too. I have a similar question posted waiting on a reply too...just wanted you to know that you are not alone and either is your daughter.
I pray that it gets better quickly for both our girls.
Thinking of you both...

Hey there,
This mysterious pain sounds to me like it is a bad herx. Its good news and bad news, as YOU know. A herx generally is the most horrific pain at the time you have ever felt in your life. Plaquenil would make you go into a BAD herx, because it is a cyst buster and if it is doing its job, then there is a MOTHERLOAD of dead bacteria in her bloodstream. A herx usually lasts for three or four days, so if the pain is still horrific for a longer period of time or all of the sudden "the plane comes crashing down", GO to the ER, At least there they can make her comfortable and make sure she doesn't have a blood clot in her leg or somthin. In the meantime while she is suffering, go to your GP (if you have one) and see if he will write her something to take the edge off. Dr. H won't and can't.
Take Care,
K-lyme

I was thinking maybe Herx, but it came on so quickly I wasn't sure. One minute she was in just the "normal" amount of pain then POW it hit her like a ton of bricks.

Was very scary. She has pain meds......she hates to take them, but I convinced her to take a Darvocet to take the edge off. Sure wish it would help that head pain.

Thank you all for your input, if anyone else has some ideas for pain relief that doesn't require massive amounts of pain killers, please let me know.

Thank you,

Every few months I get some sort of pain that comes on quickly and then gets out of control. In June it was my back, July my thumb, this week the palm of my hand.

When the pain is really bad I find painkillers are the way to go. I usually wait too long to take them. After I take them I can think more clearly and function. I remind myself to take them earlier the next time. Trying to struggle through the pain wears me out and makes me totally uinproductive and miserable. Tylenol 3 (w/codeine) works best for me. Sometimes I take a 1/2 tablet every 2 or 3 hours to minimize ups & downs.

Detox is important too. I drink lots of water, use podi-patches regularly and when I'm feeling bad I soak in Epsom Salts every day.

Hoping she gets relief soon.

ICEiam you might want to talk to your LLMD about the symptom bewing caused by your daughter's meds?I just started Levaquin yesterday and my LLMD warned me when he gave me the prescription that leg pain near the achilles tendon or elbow was one of the side effects that I needed to be on the look-out for. He told me if it happens I must stop the levaquin and if it is the cause, the pain will be gone within 24 hours. He said that if I get that kind of pain, I will have to discontinue levaquin as tendon damage is of concern.

castrong, thank you for your information but she is on Plaquenil and only been on it for a week. I will be on the look out if she is ever put on Levaquin. I think from the

other posts that she is probably having a really bad herx. I am glad of this and it scares me also as she is in quite a bit of

pain. Hopefully it will subside within the next day or two. I will take her Plaquenil down to once a day if it doesn't let up. Then I will ramp her back up.

Thank you everyone, I am so glad I have all of you!!!

Is she taking milk thistle etc. for detoxing? This, and lots of lemon water have helped Jordan through severe herxes (if that is what's happening to your daughter).

Icey,

Leg pain is a symptom of babesia. The plaquenil may have started a babesia herx? I'm not sure if plaquenil alone can do that.

I've discovered that a lot of my pain is actually referred from another place in the body. I sometimes get a sharp, burning pain down my shin and into my ankle and foot. I've realized the pain is being caused by tight muscles in my hip and I think the real cause is inflammation of my sacroiliac joints in the lower back.

Oddly enough, ankle supports help reduce the pain. The ones that are like ace bandages. I think they change how I stand and realign me.
