Hi,

I definitely experienced this heavily for the several months of this disease. The abx helped me get it under control, but I have noticed that with the occasional relapse, my whole body jerks, and it is always at night...

For me, this dissipated with my abx use...

hang in there!

I had the leg jerks too. Used magnesium and the amino acid GABA in powder form.

Started the GABA again since I recently had foot surgery. The cast is uncomfortable and I started the leg jerks again.

You do need to take magnesium if you have lyme.

Hello,
It sounds like it could be myoclonus (involuntary muscle jerking), which can be caused by Lyme. Nocturnal myoclonus is a common manifestation of myoclonus. Check out the following websites for more info.
http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/myoclonus/detail_myoclonus.htm
http://www.mdvu.org/library/disease/myoclonus/

My myoclonus is worse when I drift off to sleep, and immediately jerks me awake. I take Zonegran (an anticonvulsant) to control my myoclonus. Prior to Zonegran I took Ativan with limited success. It did help me sleep at night.

Lavender essential oil massaged into the jittery limbs seems to help calm them somewhat.

Antibiotics made my myoclonus worse, and I attributed it to herxing.

Take care,
Ms. Myo

I had this in the beginning of my acute attack....after it sat somewhat dormant.

Mine happened when the 'relax' signal would hit...I would chest convulsions...and jump like the people do that get shocked for heart attacks.

It went away with time...and treatment..it does flare when I get worn down though.

My LLMD thought that this was a strong sign of Babesia.

Yes! OMG, that is my major Lyme symptom! for 17 years I've been jerking awake, and no doc could figure out what it was until ONE doc I recently started seeing, who is supposed to be a brilliant diagnostician, finally tested me for Lyme.

When my Lyme test came back CDC positive I was stunned. I had never heard that jerking awake was a major symptom of Lyme before - I always thought Lyme symptoms were swollen knees etc.

It does get worse with herxing. My worst attack was brought on by taking Zithromax for a sinus infection, before I knew I had Lyme.

The only thing I found that would reliably stop it for me was Xanax, sometimes mixed with a really really small dose of percoset.

It also allegedly is a Babs symptom, so its probably worse right now b/c you were hitting the Babs. Maybe you shoud continue treating Babs?

I am doing the crazy Salt/C treatment - and my sleep is getting slowly better and better.

Good luck to you!

After 2 days of Biaxin, I was waking up at 4am for no reason- sometimes short of breath, sometimes not.
Just saw my LLMD, who said it could me a herx brought on by the ABX....

I have started cats claw, gobs of garlic, and a bunch of herbs from the Lyme free book, this seems to be making it worse

This is the WORST! I know what you mean. I have had restless leg syndrome for about 5 years now (and just diagnosed with Lyme in May). At my worst I was literally ready to hit myself in the head to knock myself out so that I would stop jerking around. I take Klonopin .5 to 1 mg at bedtime for it, and it helps manage it. Also, loads of magnesium at bedtime. It seems to get worse as you get more tired, so it is really important to get some sleep! See your doc if it continues!
