I have encephalitis shown by a SPECT. This is definitely in my neuro system. I haven incredible tightness on the left side of my back/neck/trunk. Almost as if there is a black hole in my mid back that is sucking everything into it. My right is stiff as well, but not as bad. I feel as this loosens up, my clarity mentally gets better as well. This leaves me with the question mark, is all the tightness, nastiness, pulling in my back and neck(moreso on the left) due to neurological issues or musuclar? Is the tightness in my back and neck causing the dizziness or is the bug in my spine causing the tightness? Being that's it's predominantly on my left side, I have a difficult time thinking the bug would find the left side tastier, that I'm think this is neurological. Chicken or the egg? What do you think?

Some guidelines from Betty/others on using this message board:

* Do NOT use all caps when posting; it's hard on our eyes. But I know one of our members has macular degeneration, and all caps is what she can see & read so exceptions like this are acceptable for good reasons.

* We chronic, late-stage lymies can NOT read long paragraphs. So please limit your paragraphs to 6-8 lines max of text and double space between paragraphs.

* You can EDIT your text comments anytime. You can NOT edit your subject line so please make it as specific as possible instead of ``help, question'' etc. in order to have more readers/replies in trying to assist you. There are between 30-40 NEW/replies to post daily so we can't read all the posts on our limited time here...thanks for understanding.

* If you use the ``quote'' icon, please DELETE [B] bold at the beginning & ending of the quote. This makes it easier on our chronic, late-stage lyme eyes.

* To just reply without quoting, go to the top or bottom of screen in the black & white area to reply or post a new topic. Many of us couldn't see it when we 1st started posting. Thank you for helping us all out!

My worst symptoms are tight muscles in my upper back. I control the symptoms with a muscle relaxer called Flexeril. My pain specialist mentioned that Flexeril actually impacts the neurological system.

I have also had myoclonus, which is uncontrollable movement. This is definetly neurological.

So I think that muscular symptoms are often neurological. I think the message is getting through wrong.

Lyme likes the endothelial cells lining blood vessels and the brain. It's sequestered away from the immune system there.

There's a lot of pain described as tendon, bone, or muscle pain, that's actually neurologically based. So it's very possible
you're experiencing neurological pain - you and your Doc. will probably have to decide which it is for sure.
