I am pretty sure I asked this question a few days ago, but does anyone think that I should not go for bike ride (at the bike trail on a rode bike, not mountain biking or anything)??? I usually ride in between 15 and 30 miles. I know I am not supposed to do any lifting, but is leaning over on the handle bars okay??? I really hope so. Any advice would be appreciated.

PS: Can you really do between 15 and 30 miles???? I am impressed. I used to do that pre-Lyme treatment. 5 - 7 miles is now a good ride for me.

I think it's good to ride, as long as you don't try to win a race or do too much. Listen to your body. It knows what it can do. When I was bad I sure couldn't ride any 15 or 20 miles! Unless maybe if I tried it in Iowa or somewhere with no hills. It helps to take a hot shower or sauna and take 'nutra-joint' or some such thing (glucosamine/condroitin/sam-e or something), in preperation, as well as perhaps an aspirin or two. Do a hot shower, or, preferably, sauna, afterward, too. after cooling off- the temp difference seem to help fight lyme.

I was allowed no repetitive motion that might pump or push the PICC out.

Hey everyone, thanks for the advice. Like I said before, my main concern was riding with a picc line in. Bike riding was the first real form of exercise I started in over a year. I started riding about 3 months ago every couple of days and worked my way up to about every other day and started riding about 6 miles per trip and worked up to an average of twenty miles or so. I have not rode at all for the past few days since I got the picc line put in. The only exercise I have done since I got the picc put in has been sit ups.
Its just that for over a year I practically never even went outside and I have really enjoyed the exercise the past few months, and even when I am feeling really ****ty, a lot of times once I start riding I just get in kind of a zone and its like a nice escape, plus like I said I feel like I am doing my body some good. Of course there have been plenty of times too when I force myself out the door and turn back around before I reach the end of my street because I am feeling so awfull.
I was really just concerned about putting too much pressure on the line or getting to sweaty. Thanks to everyone who responded, I really appreciate the advice and everything, I will be careful no matter what I end up doing.
And for what its worth, where I live there is a great trail that runs for miles and miles with nothing but other bikers, runners, and a occasional small hill, its mostly flat and smooth everywhere. And I too ride a road/racing bike.
Thanks again,

I hear you! I love cycling. It is one of the few exercises that makes me feel agile and strong. It also clears my head to be outside alone with the wind in my face.
I ride very early in the AM to avoid cars and joggers because my balance is so iffy. I ride as the sun is coming up. It is a great way to start your day.
Then, I come home and take my meds and start to feel crummy all over again. Oh well.
As for the sweating, yes watch that, another good reason to cycle when it is cooler in the AM. My nurse used to cringe when I arrived for my bandage change and the sweat had curled the edges of the bandage. She explained that the sweat has nowhere to go so it gets re-absorbed into the PICC area. Ewwww = toxins.

Get a trainer for your bike - I havenot been able to ride outside since getting lyme but I try to keep some tone in my legs by using my bike traner - Thry to keep as active as possable I think is very important -
