Hubby tried Lyme specific transfer factor on recommendation of a "supposed" LLMD -- can't remember the brand off hand. For him within 5 - 30 minutes of taking the pill it triggered seizure-like episodes.

He has these episodes multiple times a day anyway, but this was a consistent trigger. He continued to take this for 3 months -- after 2 months I think he stopped getting the bad reaction.

The other thing we noticed was that while his total white blood cell count remained normal the number and percent of monocytes was elevated. This only happened after he started this supplement.

The next LLMD we saw, Dr B on Long Island told hubby the transfer factor was the wrong immune booster for Lyme patients. Lyme patients tend to have some parts of their immune system underactive and other parts overactive.

The CD57 test supposedly measures a specific type of killer cell I think which is often low in Lyme patients. It is my understanding that patient test results have not been as indicative of chronic infections as originally assumed in the medical literature.

Dr B suggested a Reishi mushroom supplement from Pharmasan. This particular product contains the cracked spores and we have not been able to find a comparable product from a different manufacturer. Unfortunately it costs about $100 per month.

On the Reishi hubby's white blood cell count is overall higher (mid range rather than low normal) and the individual components are all within the normal ranges as well.

We have tried two other brands -- a cheap one and a mid price one and on those hubby's monocyte count goes back up. The Reishi is supposed to work like an adaptogen which regulates and normalizes the immune system.

Am currently trying some other herbs to see how they effect immune markers.

I am not a doctor but am just reporting hubby's experiences which may not be the same for everyone.

I tried Transfer Factor (or similar) during my first round of meds for Lyme, a couple of years ago. I saw no noticable difference in my symptoms.

I've been taking Ambrotose for 3 months and think it's helping.

The down side is the price as you know.

I tried Ambrotose for about a month, and it gave me HORRIBLE gut bloat and brain fog. I think I was either allergic to one of their monosaccharrides, or the short chain sugars were leaking out of my GI tract because of leaky gut.

Both my husband and I like ReishiMax, and I'm registered as a distributor, because it helps subsidize my supplement bill. I offer all Lymies the max discount of 20%, which you can get by entering the code 20ECOUP at checkout. And make sure you place an "ADR" order to save 28% and earn free product points. You can cancel this repeating order at any time, so there's no risk to doing this.

ReishiMax GLp from Pharmanex
Cost: $66.50 (as an ADR order) http://www.pharmanexusa.com/cgi-bin/pxweb/product/en/ns_productDetail.jsp?content_id=01003519&spons_ID=US0668509

I took transfer factor formula 560 three years a go. I had tested positive to hhv6a and the transfer factor was suppose to help. I got really sick from it. I think it might have been a herx reaction, I don't know. I didn't know what a herx was until I joined a lyme group. My doctor thinks since I have several auto-immune diseases, hashimoto's and granuloma annulare, that a supplement that stimulates your immune system might not be a good idea for me

T,

I've used transfer factor immune booster. Didn't notice anything.

I only took one a day to make it stretch out for 2 months.

I've been off it for a month......
No difference

I took transfer factor immune booster---dont recall the company or dose or anything---in 2001. I am unsure if it made any difference. I did get well with treatment from that and many other immune boosters and ABX, but I have a hard time believing it was really the transfer factor that did it.

My dtr took a high dose of expensive transfer factor for several months - the only difference was that the manufacter got a lot of cash in his pocket!

Her CD 57 stayed a zero! It just made us poorer.

She is doing some better now (about 2 years later) which we account to traditional abx therapy.
