I just got results back from a dot blot urine test from Igenex and all three samples were negative.

I was on IV Rocephin from October 15, 2004 through June 24, 2005. During that time I also took one month of Mepron (January), Biaxin (Oct-Jan), Ketek (Jan-Mar?), Doxy (Mar-now), and Vantin (the last two weeks).

My Babs test was borderline in early January but after one month my new doc didn't want me to keep taking the Mepron. I also has an off the chart (literally) nanobacter test in Feb or March and that is why I switched to doxy.

I was doing really well in April/May so I came off of the IV. I was fine for a few weeks and then took a significant decline. That is when I added the Vantin.

When I was feeling really aweful a few weeks ago I did the Igenex test but I was on abx when I did it.

I'm feeling better now but still not great. I am supposed to return to college on two weeks after having been out of school for the last 10 months.

Any ideas, suggestions, encouragement?

Great to hear you are on your way back to college.

Our llmd recommends 3 months symptom free before discontinuing abx.

Long term orals, years, after IV have produced good results for me. I feel very very good 99.9 percent of the time, but have the occational herx/return of symptoms for a day or two. My llmd says keep taking my abx. I do.

Others will be along with what has worked well for them and their families. You might have to try several treatments for continued symptom free days.

Best of luck in school,
Mel

It's all about how you feel! (clinical) The tests are a unreliable factor.

Keep taking your medicine!!!!!

feel better,
Heather

That's an awful lot of meds in a short period of time in my opinion.

However, I wouldn't rely on the test results alone when making a decision about continued treatment.

Hubby has had these tests among others and the particular test you mentioned has always been negative for him -- regardless of how symptomatic he is. Tested 3 or 4 times I think with this test.

Have you retested the nanobacteria? Hubby also has some positive tests for this, but we haven't retested in over a year and are just concentrating on tick-borne infections right now.

If you really have Babesia Dr B on Long Island told hubby it must be treated for 4 -6 months CONTINOUSLY since the average life of a red blood cell is 120 days.

1. Babesia takes a long time to clear.
2. IV Rocephin MUST be followed with oral abx or you will most assuredly relapse.

So do you have an LLMD? I agree with Bea that you need to go by how you FEEL, not tests.

I hope you can return to school, but remember it might be best to knock this out NOW and return next yr.

Good luck with whatever path you choose!

Thank you all. I guess I don't really know exactly what I was asking because I know that I still need abx even if only for the nanobacteria.

I think my doc will want to retest me for that and see if my levels have come down. I think that roughly 5 months of tx for that should be bringing the levels down.

If not then I need to rethink the babs. One doc thought it better to treat for babs. The other thought it not necessary. I had a terrible time with the mepron so I may need to try another option.

Anyway, I will stick with the abx I'm on. I see the doc next week. I think I'm better enough that school will help me.

I have been living at home with my parents and being alone so much of the time makes me depressed. I need to be back with my friends even if I only take a class or two.

Thanks for you opinions and I'll take any others as well.

Taking a few classes sounds like a good plan!

You can also use clindamycin/quinine for babs, or the herb artemisinin. They work well against babs.
