Hi Team,
There is a fellow lymer who is on SS disability and cannot get any social services to help. They need someone to come into the house and do basic things. They are unable to even bathe at this point.
No groceries, etc.
I can't drive yet or I would do something.
Do any of you brainiacs who know everything about this process have some wisdom I can pass on?
They really need help.
Thanks in advance.
Blessings,
Marblenose

Marble,

Something doesn't sound right here. What state do they live in?

I've never heard where the County health services/ HOMEWARD, etc. has not gotten involved before.

Where I live, we have at least 12 places that will come into the home and do things.

If you have no luck, then I would call your governor's OMBUDSMAN or better yet...your local republican and democrate STATE senators for their involvement. They will make things happen.

good luck....bettyg

If they have state insurance (Medicaid) they can likely get services through the state disability commisions. If they do not have this then they are simply out of luck - they have to hire someone on their own. I am not on state insurance and hired a local college student to help me do all the things you mention. Yes, I am beyond broke, but what else can you do?

Also, if they are on Medicare (via SSDI) the VNA will do stuff like bathing, help getting dressed for them, but no dice on the groceries, light housekeeping, taking to appts, etc. That's where you need state insurance OR hire someone out of pocket.

Thanks for the valuable feedback. I feel like the blind leading the blind here. I will pass this info on.
