So how do we know if our symptoms are the reocurrence of lyme (I have been symptom free for two years) or just candida? (I can tell I have a yeast infection now, itchy you know where).
So, which is it? Do I take antibiotics again and make the yeast worse? Or treat the candida and see if symptoms go away?

CONFUSING!

I would start by treating the yeast by selective diet and probiotics. Acidophilus every day. If I have sugary items, I'll take a couple of acidophilus tabs 1-2 hours later before abx or bedtime.

I'm doing my own personal study as I was trying the antiyeast diet; however, I am lactose intolerant and the yogurt was killing me.

lots of lean protiens and fresh veggies. Low glycemic foods will help. Almonds are beneficial, have low carb and sugar and can keep you balanced between meals.

I am still on abx so this may not work for me when the time comes to discontinue abx treatment. I believe that treepatrols newbie links have more information on dietary supplements and dietary programs for yeast.

This is my opinion . . . I've talked to a number of lymies lately who are very sick because they are toxic. To me candida is toxic and I've heard it can be as devestating as lyme.

I've noticed a trend to detox and then treat. One man who is VERY symptomatic w/Parkinson like tremors and disabled and just got a new diagnoses of Lyme Disease. His LLMD started him off w/a cleansing diet and will move to antibiotics when his body can handle it.

Within a week he felt improvement. This is a man who has been ill for years upon years upon years, saw the BEST in the medical field who gave him the worst diagnoses info as he continued to deteriorate. You know the drill.

He is very elated to finally be on the right path and feeling better. Before I knew I had lyme I did a month long cleasning diet for yeast and it did help. We did yeast free sugar free (a group at work).

Hope my input helps. It sure takes a village to help each other get well.

I would try treating yeast first. I give my daughter oil of oregano whenever she gets itchy "down there" and within a half hour to hour the itching stops completely. The kids do 3 drops under the toung daily and I do 3 drops twice a day.

You will know right away if it is working.

Hey Trout-

I get the Oil of Oregano geltabs from Puritan Pride. I figured if my parents and grandparents had been getting vitamins there for years they had to be good. My Grandmom is 103.

I try to remember to take one for 5-7 days every 4-5 weeks for yeast management.

Hope you feel better soon.

If all you are having is itch--
its probely candida--

Is this you only symptom?

People get candida for some reason-
bad diet-ABX-illness ect.
What do you think the reason

Hey, thanks everyone! So, you'd recommend treating the yeast, see if I feel better, and if not, that must mean the lyme symptoms are back?
I lay in bed at night with muscle twitching an pins and needle sensations, fatigue.
I could not continue my antibiotic treatment past four months, two years ago, and figured that since the symptoms were gone, I could wait and see.
Now they are back, but coinciding with what I know is a yeast infection, so I just read where yeast can make you have lyme symptoms, so I got really confused. And before taking MORE antibiotics, I figured I should ask you all.
THANK YOU!

Hi,

I was just reading this thread because I started a candida diet today since I have all this time to kill while I wait for someone to diagnose me with lyme (please oh please let this happen at my dr. appointment tomorrow).

I still have to round up some Caprylic acid, but I'm taking probiotics, oil of oregano, olive leaf extract, organic plain yogurt, and grapefruit seed extract. All great anti-candida things. Oh and as much raw garlic as I can handle.

And I got some xylitol and stevia for sugar substitutes. I can't believe how good the xylitol tastes!

Interestingly, I started only this afternoon and tonight began a ripper of a headache. Hooray for herxing! I have noticed in the past when I am killing either parasites or other non friendly organisms that I will get this headache. It stinks but I know it's working, and fast!

Somehow it just feels right for me to address the candida first. Anything that can help my body prepare for healing from the lyme sounds good to me. I'm also going to combine this with a parasite cleanse in a few days, nutritional balancing, immune boosting, and cleansing. Eeps!

Cheers,

Alison

Hi Betsy,

The parasite cleanse I do involves taking a tincture made from 3 ingredients: Wormwood (which is Artemesia), green black walnut hulls, and cloves.

The three ingredients all kill different life stages of the bugs. From what I gather, it is important to kill all lifetages because if you only kill adults and not the eggs then the eggs will hatch and the parasites will come back (cloves are what kill the eggs).

One thing that made me remember about this protocol is that the last time I did it I got major herx reactions. Now after being here I know that this is a *good* thing.

I'm not sure how effective this will be for borrelia per se, but I do think that if I can decrease the parasite load in my body it will help.

I had a product I used from Now foods but I just found out that you can't place orders over the internet, so I got a different one called Clarkia.

Cheers,

Alison

In the book "The Body Ecology Diet" it says that approximately 1 in 3 people have problems with yeast overgrowth/candida (and that's including non lyme people). I would definitely try treating the yeast first and see if your symptoms go away.
