Will be starting on abx this week after having undiagnosed nuerolyme for the last twenty years. I know every herxs different and it will be worse in the beginning. But I need to know what to plan for..

-Will I be able to care for my children?
-Will I be able to drive?
-Will I need to be in bed all day?
-Will I need to have someone to care for me?
-If it is dehibilitating, For how long?

Just trying to get all my ducks in a row and use the help I've been offered when I need it. I basically need to know if I need to move in to my parents house at least days while my husband works, put my kids in school(we homeschool), Have my sister fly in from California. I know no one knows what they will experience until they do but just trying to plan ahead. How bad has it gotten for you.

I've been warned by a well intentioned friend that treament can cause physcological issues as far as not being mentally sound ie needing to be monitored 24/7 true or not?

You may feel you can do all of those things, but better at certain times of day than others. I felt more comfortable being around safe people (friends, family) that understood my self doubts.

My medication increased before bed, so that early morning til noon could be horrible. The anxiety and questions surrounding your inability to do common everyday tasks can be the worst part of it. You may experience episodes that will last for several days every 4-6 weeks.

If you are able to keep a journal of these horrible episodes, hopefully it will show the cycle and dissipation or lessening of the symptoms during each subsequent herx.

I used the llmd's nurse or doctor and also came here quite often.

Brain fog, anxiety, flu-like and nausea were popular in my case.

Keep in touch. It helps to have friends, family to assist you.

The first few months will be the toughest. You may react immediately, or in ten to twelve days, every 4 weeks, or not at all. At my worst, I could not drive for a while - way too dizzy.

If I were given the opportunity to have had help, I would have taken it when offered.

But maybe explain to everyone when there will be good days and really baaaaaad days (or even just moments that come without warning). Explain that when Mommy says she doesn't feel good, she means it, and she must go to bed RIGHT NOW. Nobody should be able to question or whine about it (hubby included).

And explain that you are not to be made to feel guilty about being sick... because sometimes well meaning family members don't quite get the concept that you can be feeling great one minute, then like total crap the next, and that the process takes many many months (or years) to resolve.

Since you've been sick so long, I would suggest (if you can afford it) to start some detoxing using the foot patches. There's lot of posts here if you do a search (hope it's working). It might help make the herxes tolerable.

Good luck to you.

I'm doing a full body cleanse from the health food store right now until I get my abx. It says it can only be done four times a year. Does it help to use the detox stuff during a herx like the tea or should it be used everyday just to keep toxin levels down and does it work.

Niki, their called Podi patches. Google it and you'll find them. For herx's ? Hot baths in epsom salts, or drink water with freshly squeezed lemon, or some claim mangosteen juice helped them.

As far as the offers of help while your recovering ? I'd say accept. Having had lyme for as long as you have, you may have some rough times, and the help will be needed. If not, send them home !

Good thinking to be doing the detoxing first. If I had known then what I know now, I would have done it in the same order.

I would check with your dr to see if you should be using that while taking abx. Some of these products wipe out EVERYTHING in your system, including your medication.

Milk thistle, however, is a must do while taking abx. (liver detox) Just take it away from your abx doses.

Green tea, ginger, epsom salt and baking soda baths and lots and lots of bottled water help with herxes. (And lots of water is a must all the time.)
www.podipatch.com - by far the most potent product, easy on the sytem, and wonderful for long term use. But a bit pricey.

You can find similar products on Ebay. Just compare the ingredient list to the ones from podipatch.

Hi, Niki!

I'm newly diagnosed with Lyme and have only been on abx for three months. My LLMD prescribed oral, starting at a low dose, then increasing each week for a month.

I got a bit of a herx during the day (and day after) the abx increased. Generally, I also felt much better in the mornings; by late afternoon, I was pretty useless...even on "good" days.

I tracked all my symptoms on a chart, so I could glance at it and see exactly how this recovery progresses.

At the end of the first month, then again at the end of the second month, I had very nasty herxes which left me basically unable to function for a few days. I found those month herxes lasted for about 3 to 4 days, with the last day being the worst.

The thing about this disease, though, is that it varies with everyone, I think.

Still, I agree with others that the foot patches are a good idea. I've been using them since I first started abx, and I have them on now, actually. I think they've really helped my Lyme arthritis and my thinking.

Hope this helps.

Andie

Thanks everyone! I just ordered some patches to try. I would love for them to work, my husband thinks it is a litttle nuts but I think I will stick some on him after he falls asleep and see what comes out!

Just updateing ... Gunky and brown after just two hours gross!

I did have a infra red massage table treatment today. Felt totally relaxed then a few hours later felt like I had been run over by a truck.

I put the pads on early to see if it would help. A few hours later I really feel better. Wierd maybe little sticky things on your feet but if they work how cool!

I think I will give everyone a little sample package for Christmas! Wonder how that will go over.
