Doctor prescribed IV abx last week, still haven't heard from the infusion dept. Doc's nurse told me that it all depends on your particular ins how fast things move.

She said it could take anywhere from 4-6 weeks!

has this been your experiance?

She told me not to call the insurance company because I would make it worse.

I asked to be treated with oral meds in the interm, wasn't sure if that would go through but she would check.

Here I am finally knowing what I have and each day treatment is delayed is like torture!

Any advice...

It depends on your insurance.

I contacted a home health agency on a Tuesday. They had insurance approval that day. They had the PICC lines in on Thursday and the meds started Friday.

My insurance denied the IV, even though I had Dr. F from NY saying I needed it.

So, I started the IV anyway, and battled my insurance after the fact. They have paid for the first 6 weeks. Whether or not they will pay for the next six weeks remains to be seen.

Probably not without a battle.....
