DId you stay entirely out of the sun? A quicksearch shows:
Tetracyclines, such as minocycline, may cause your skin to be more sensitive to sunlight than it is normally. Exposure to sunlight, even for brief periods of time, may cause a skin rash, itching, redness or other discoloration of the skin, or a severe sunburn. After receiving minocycline:
Stay out of direct sunlight, especially between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., if possible. Wear protective clothing, including a hat. Also, wear sunglasses. Apply a sun block product that has a skin protection factor (SPF) of at least 15. Some patients may require a product with a higher SPF number, especially if they have a fair complexion. If you have any questions about this, check with your health care professional. Apply a sun block lip balm or lipstick that has an SPF of at least 15 to protect your lips. Do not use a sunlamp or tanning bed or booth.

I got a crazy itchy rash on minocycline too after a couple of weeks (no sun exposure). We used an itsy bitsy amt of prednisone every other day for a few weeks to get me through the worst of it.
I'm still unsure whether its a true allergy or just some weirdo die-off thing. But I have so many drug allergies that my options are somewhat limited, so onward I go on the med.
Too bad about the reaction as mino has some nice neuro supporting properties independent of the antibiotic effect. I'm not terribly familiar with other oral drugs because my relapses are usually treated with IV drugs (rock on Primaxin!). Cephalosporins can be pretty effective, and if you aren't allergic to penicillin, I'd definitely consider that.
Best of luck to you.

Gee, sorry to hear this! There are tons of options. Maybe Zith or BiaxinXL??

You can also cut back on the dose. I herx like crazy and would probably end up in the ER after that dose. It seems that some of these meds accumulate over the weeks. I usually start having problems around day 8-10.
I have found that I can cut the dose down to a place where all symptoms are bearable. My LLMD said there does NOT have to be pain to have gain. But as always, you should consider asking your doc before decreasing the dose. You can only divide capsules with the powder inside, not the ones with pellets as they are ususally time released.

Does it make sense to start again with the Minocycline - 1 pill a day for the first 2 weeks and stay out of the sun?

Just me...Yes, if you didn't stay completely out of the sun the first time. But be careful just in case it's from an allergy. Go easy. Let us know how it goes, OK?!
