I am being taken off all my meds, quinine sulfate, biaxin xl, and plaquenil that I have been on for a year and was doing fine, but have been herxing since July 4th and Dr. thinks I might have reached my plateau of wellness. He is putting me on tetricycline only. Any advice or knowledge of reaction that I might have on this would be appreciated.

Plateau of wellness? I'm not sure I'm following that. It sounds to me like you need a medication change.

Tetracycline worked well for me for about 4 months with no adverse side effects.

I don't get the plateau of wellness either...

Whenever I've plateaued it's been that I stop herxing on a particular med...

Sounds to me you're still herxing and doc is trying to make it easier on you.

Anyway, Dr D has said he likes tetracycline three times a day(don't remember dose).

Don't know of any reactions other than avoidance of sunlight on skin or in eyes.....

Good luck...................zman

Sorry to clear up the "plateau of wellness", I was finally feeling well for almost 3 months before July 4th and then had a set back, having lyme for 3 years now, this was my first time actually feeling no pain for that short few months, but then July 4th I had a set back. Thanks for the responses.

Hi Mamma-

My son and I have been on tetra for more than 2 years. We both have made good progress in restoring our health. Most days we function pretty highly.

We both had lyme 2-3 years before treatment.

So you plateaued on the medication.

I would ask the doc about switching to doxy instead of tetra. Taking tetra 3 x day (1500 mg) which must be on an empty stomach (1-2 hours before, 2-3 after a meal) can be a pain.

Doxy is not drastically affected by taking it with food so it is much more convenient.
