Has anyone had any experience with Lyme and Reiki? A Reiki practitioner has offered to conduct a few sessions to help me with my Lyme and, in particular, the relapse I am having as a result of the stress of my brother's death this summer. (He was 38, it was unexpected, and he was my only sibling.)
I am amazed by the response my body has already had during these two sessions.
I would love any feedback and/or links to info about Reiki and Lyme.
Thanks, Julie

I am so sorry that you have lost your brother. Loss is so difficult to cope with. I pray that God gives you the strength and tools to move thru this difficult time.
I do beleive that healing touch, Reiki, Cranial sacral message, etc. can be affective. The first time I expereinced it I was a NON believer. During and after I knew it had power. The therapist never touched my body and soon after the message ended it felt as tho I had had a deep muscle message.
I also felt emotional release from the trauma of neck surgery {LYME, misdiagnosis} and all the stuff that this disease brings with it. Drink lots of water.
Hope this has helped.
Peace, BJG

Hi Julie,
I have not tried Reiki, but wanted to say I'm sorry about your brother. I can empathize, as I lost my cousin (raised as my sister) unexpectedly when she was 32.

Juiie, my heartfelt condolences on your brother. I hope your friends & family provide solace in this difficult time.
Yes, I've done Reiki & Cranial Sacral and found them helful for pain relief and relaxation. Stretching is important to keep the Lyme joints from freezing up.

Thank you BJG and Foggy for your sympathy and thoughts about Reiki. I continue to be intrigued by it and definitely think something powerful and positive is going on!
DLL, thank you for your kind thoughts, as well. I feel as if you and I have shared some very similar experiences throughout our lives (such as a our preg. losses as a reult of Lyme); unfortunately, they seem to be only sad ones.
Thank you for getting back to me.

I am a reiki master and a medical nurse . Ihave my own practice and the hospital i work at allows me to do it on patients to help with their healing . They offer it to them.
It is a healing therapy. I do not do the healing. I open up channels of energy within your body that are blocked so that your OWN body can do the healing. IT does not hurt you, it's like accupunture without the needles.
Most people feel very relaxed, and I credit reiki, cranial sacral and massage therapy to the three alternative therapies along with abx that got me well.
You can't get worse with reiki., YOu can, like any other alternative therapy have a day or so of what they call a healing crisis, where your own body is starting to reallign and heal itself. WHen this happens you may feel flu like . Drink alot of fluids...but then you'll feel great...and during the session it's wonderfully relaxing. many of my patients fall asleep....
If it was an awful experience for one of you , sounds like you had a bad practitiioner..you should try it again..it's very soothing..and your body will start to heal itselfl..especially over many sessions. It totally eliminated my headaches as well...
As a reiki master I've had three years of training..make sure you go to someone reputable with the proper trainging..one course doesn't make them ok to treat you...
good luck and enjoy..it's wonderful..

Julie,
I am so very sorry to hear about your brother and can only imagine how horrible it's been for you to experience a Lyme relapse in the midst of that sorrow.
Since I was first dx with Lyme, I've received continuous complimentary therapy, not Reiki, but cranial sacral massage, acupuncture, therapeutic touch (great when my body is touch-aversive) and shiatsu.
I'm really fortunate to know people who are certified practitioners of these therapies and who have been willing to offer their help.
I absolutely feel these things have been helping my healing. It's sometimes hard for me to single things out that are helping me improve, but I'm very grateful to have these complementary therapies and would probably invest in them were things different. Actually, I seem to be improving a tiny little bit at a time, each day. I credit everything I'm taking and doing (including the foot patches).
This is a complicated disease, and I figure I need to marshall every resource I can toward healing.
Again, sorry to hear about your brother and I'm really glad the work is giving you relief.
Andie

How nice to come back to this post and see new responses...thank you!
I am fascinated to hear about the body realigning itself, Lisa, because the night after my second treatment, I felt fluish! I was achy (but not in a Lyme way) and had trouble sleeping as a result, but by morning I was much better, and my Lyme symptoms were much better.
I went again today and had a remarkable experience...very meditative and transcendent. I feel my body doing so much too that I feel that there has to be somethign of note going on.
The woman I see I know from town, but she said that she has been doing Reiki for 10-12 years, and based on the depth of the responses I am havign to the treatment, I think I have lucked out with finding someone legitimate and good.
I am sorry Betty that your exp. was bad, because this has been very rejuvenating for me.
Thank you all for your kind comments abotu the loss of my brother, too; I appreciate them very much. I see my LLMD tomorrow and am eager to hear what he has to say about my progress/regression.
