Does anybody know of effective abx. that I can INJECT in the hip? I had a portacath placed in my chest, unfortunately I have had a lot of problems with it. I also have stomach ulcers from prior prolonged abx.
I am allergic to the penicillin and amoxycillin families of drugs. Any suggestions? I am on my 9th month with-out treatment since being re-infected.
If you know of anything that may help me I would like to inform my "somewhat" LLMD. He has Lyme and is wigging out since this Igenex thing and does not think he can take Medicare Lyme patients anymore.
Thank you for your anticipated help ;-)

Darn, the usual is Bicillin LA ... but I believe I"ve heard that Rocephin can be injected.

Maybe this will help:

Wondering if you might want to talk to an allergist about desensitization for the pencillin, since bicillin is the most often used IM for lyme. Don't know if this would work for you, but might be worth asking.

Lou's suggestion sounds good to me. Depending on circumstances, you may want to review whether what you have is a penicillin allergy. I read an abstract somewhere about something like 90% of people who have been told they are allergic to penicillin actually aren't. Just a thought, because if you can use Bicillin LA (and get it) it's often pretty effective.
Rocephin can be given IM at around 2grams a day but it is hard on gall bladders. Someone here, long ago, posted about using claforan.

good point! I should know that, since I was once told I was allergic to penicillin. I now believe it was a herx reaction since I had Lyme at the time and didn't know it. I can now take the cillins.

Thanks all. I appreciate your suggestions and links. I think i will talk to an allergist because I have also been diagnoised allergic to the cephasporin family (Rocephine) as well as the penicillin family.
Maybe they can test me and see if I really am allergic both. Morphine too!
It will be great to finally get some treatment. Thanks again.

10% of patients with penicillin allergies are also allergic to cephlosporins.

Sounds like you have drug sensitivities.

Roche has developed testing to detect whether or not enzymes that metabolise drugs are working properly. I believe that other medical testing is also starting to emerge to test individual response to drugs.

Some of the folks at the FDA are very supportive of this type of testing, so it might be covered by Medicare. See if an allergist or oncologist (first adopters) know of any labs who can run this type of testing.

Here is the website for Claforan/cefotaxime:
