Anyone out there that is or has been on zith & mino at the same time? Just wondering if you were aware of or experienced side effects that you didn't have using one or the other alone.
Personally, I was on mino for a while (100 twice daily). Did pretty okay with it. Then I picked up a kidney infection and was on zith (held off on mino just b/c I was a sick ol' mess). Zith dose was 250 mg daily. Again, did pretty okay on this alone (and goodbye to kidney infection).
Now doc has me on both -- am feeling like a wreck: my cardiac pain is through the roof (a symptom that I had before but not to this degree), am more wiped out, and heart rate is, well, hummingbird-like. Am on 250 zith and just 100 mg/day mino (but am supposed to be on the 100 2X day).
Any experience current or otherwise?
thx.

Hi - my daughter was on Zith and Mino for almost a year w/ no significant side effect. I believe her dosage was 400mg mino and either 500 or 1000 mg zith.
She made some progress on this combo but, has made the most significant progress on Ketek and Ketek w/ Plaquenil.
Right now, she is having a tuff time w/ her new Bart dx and the Cipro/Zith combo she's on for that!
Also, in the middle of all of my stuff, I also took mino and zith for a while! I noticed improvement in my "tingling" symptoms and some clearer thinking - no bad side effect; however, when we start new meds, we ramp up REALLY slowly!
HOpe this helps.

I currently am on 250 mg twice daily of zithromax and 100 mg of minocycline twice daily and pulsing 250 mg of flagyl three times a day every three weeks.
Two weeks ago we added the minocycline and on the second day I knew for sure that I was herxing. There really wasn't much that didn't hurt. All at the same time both ankles were swollen and painful as well as horrible hip pain and stiffness and pain in both knees. I spent four days pretty much in bed not able to do much for myself or anyone. The headaches I already was experiencing prior to mino was now worse, as well as the neuropathies. Also my fevers went up higher than they were prior to the mino.
On day five of taking the zith and mino, the brain fog started to lift somewhat and the headaches improved a little as well as the other symptoms. Everyday seemed a little better after that.
Today is day 13 and I have to say that on day 12 I felt the best I have felt in the last 26 months. So I think the zith and mino are doing something for the good.
I am putting off restarting the flagyl just because I feel like I need a breather right now. I just am not ready to stir the pot up again so soon. I am thinking about giving myself another week and then plan on jumping back into the "fire."
I am finding that the mino is helping the joint, muscle, and neuro symptoms alot almost as well as the rocephin did. However, at this point I still have not been able to get rid of the daily fevers.
I am in a far better place than I have been, but I have a ways to go. However, I think thus far this combination is worth continuing on.
Duramater have you tried the trio of zith, mino and flagyl? Are you having difficulty with yeast? I find it more difficlut keeping the yeast at bay since adding mino. I eat a low carb diet because I am diabetic. I took a break from the diflucan for ten days to give my stomach a break. I guess that was a mistake because now I am battling with the yeast.
I hope you feel better soon. I keep reading how these two drugs are very powerful. Let's hope it does the trick, lol.

Bringing this thread back up for any current input on Zithromax and Minocycline being used together.
Fiance is about 14 months into treatment. His current meds are Mino (for past 3 months or so) and Tindamax (for the past 3 weeks or so). He has just transitioned off Rifampin; is doing Resveratrol, Andrographis, Sarsaparilla (Smilax)and Cat's Claw from the Buhner protocol.
He is wondering if he is starting to plateau on Mino. Zith is the next abx on the list to try. Now I'm wondering if we should ask LLMD about adding Zith to the Mino instead of making a complete switch.
Any thoughts? All input appreciated!
Thanks so much, Aviva

I am on both.
I credit the recent (Dec 2006) addition of Mino for MUCH.
Constant, uncontrolled diarrhea plagued me for several years. Many times a day.
Yes, did all the standard tests (fecal occult, colonoscopy, etc.) - all negative.
No other abx made any difference in this particular symptom until the addition of mino, which miraculously stopped it completely.
(I am positive for lyme and babesia WA-1, in second round of tx for the babesia.)
The beginning was tough -- dizziness, heart palpitations, etc. But in a few weeks that tapered off.
So count me impressed with mino. And the Zith is part and parcel of the babesia treatment.

Michele, my sweetie also went through the initial dizziness with Mino, but was able to tolerate it and got some very positive effects on cognitive/neuro symptoms. We are really wondering about babs; he didn't have much of a reaction to a short-term clindamycin/quinine protocol, but he does seem to get relief from artemisinin gel, and good effects from tonic water. LLMD said he may have a strain of babs that didn't respond to the initial protocol.
Pony, our LLMD advocates the "turtle" approach too. Fiance has reconciled himself to ramping up slowly, and backing down if the herxing gets too bad. It's nice to get that reminder.
Lyme Ed, I appreciate you mentioning ototoxicity. Didn't realize that was a possible effect of Zithromax. We're already dealing with tinnitus, so that is definitely something to ask about. Thank you.
Would love to hear more experiences...
Thanks! Aviva
