I personally know abt 50 people with LD in NH, 10 folks in my town. Myself and my children in my houdhold, and I don't get around much cuz I'm so sick.
Lyme Disease is the fastest growing infectious disease in the US. The CDC said that...
Sounds like this friend isn't getting accurate info.
You can refer them to the Lyme Disease Association, and ILADS for further research, and treament guidelines, if they are looking for something more than here.

I'm sorry, but why is he conducting this study? Maybe 350 - 450 multiplied by thousands.
The results of his research will be limited to his resources. That being local physicians and news reports.
He will obtain greater/broader results by conducting this research using web searches at the library.

Even the CDC is low because of lyme not being reported but way higher than your friend.

The real number of Lyme cases is probably two or three million per year. The CDC's official number is about 24,000 and even they say that number undercounts the disease by a factor of ten. The CDC is referring to only those cases that meet their 5-band surveillance criteria. As most of us know, the vast majority of Lyme patients have fewer than five bands on their Western Blot. Thus, the annual number of new Lyme cases most assuredly numbers in the millions.

Just doing a quick, non-scientific, survey I find that about 34% of my extended family and close friends have been infected. Of those, about half have developed late-stage symptoms. This group would be slightly skewed though, as about half of them are located in New London county, CT...a highly endemic area for Lyme.
Still, taking all of that into account, and if my extended family is anything like "normal", you can easily deduce the numbers are well into the millions for both groups, the folks that get Lyme and recover early with prophylactic treatment, and the folks that develop late-stage Lyme.
The CDC is very quick to note that it is one of the fastest growing/spreading infectious diseases in the country and the numbers are way out of whack because information and knowlege of it is so limited.
