Have you experienced this?

I have bad insomnia all the time (can't fall asleep) but with the tini + 2 ambien+ 20 drops of rivotril I feel totally awake and it's 3 pm, I'll still be up at 4 and at 5 and even at 6 the tinidazoles do it to me every time.

Any others with similar experiences and what did they do, take etc?

My kids got sleepless when they did a 3 day pulse of flagyl.

I wondered if it was related. I was going to post a question about that myself; but some new drama developed.

They are back on track sleeping-wise thank goodness.

I'm interested to see what other responses surface.

Hope you can get some rest.

I could not sleep when I did Flagyl either, but I thought it was because of all the pain! My days and nights were backwards the whole time I was on that stuff. On the flip side, it did wonders and help me progress faster than anything else.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. My take is that it a) really gets into the brain (where the sleep cascade starts) and b) it hits the right bugs in the form they happen to be in in that particular location (I am remaining open as to which bugs and which form).

I am also thinking of the possibility of Chlamydia pneumoniae as per the Wheldon/Stratton protocol used by some people who have MS.

Tinidazole (and flagyl) have always been very effective with me too, dramatically so most of the time, but I can usually only use short pulses as I also get very bad headaches and other symptoms, like the sleep disturbances-which my husband also gets some times with the tini and some times he doesn't, (must be due to what amount of bugs are there in that sleep area of the brain at the time).

Any opinions?

Nelly

Flagyl causes depression in most people. I would think that would certainly cause a sleep disturbance.

what time of day do you take your last dosage? Can you take it earlier in the day?

I take it twice a day, last dose at dinner time, but Tinidazole and flagyl stay in one's system quite a long time.

Anyway, I nearly always have trouble falling asleep, it's just that with the tini it gets ridiculous!

I am just interested in what it means in terms of where it reaches and what it hits

I am not sure that the insomnia is totally caused just by medication. My daughter had it bad to the point she was wandering the house at all hours

of the night before she was even dx with Lyme. I think it is a common symptom of Lyme, Babs, Bart and maybe other TBD as well. Not sure, just my take on it.

Now on treatment she still has problems sleeping but takes things to help her get to sleep. Have you tried Melatonin? It helps some people. Or you could try this [bonk]

I will have to try [bonk] as we can't buy melatonin here in France [Wink]

I agree that Lyme etc causes sleep problems and I think if the tinidazole makes things worse at times, it is not entirely due to the abx like a toxic reaction to the drug. I agree it's linked to Lyme + a treatment that is hitting it hard

Nelly -- what about depression?

My sleep cycle is such a mess that I wouldn't notice tinidazole causing further damage to it. But--tinidazole did kick off a terrific depression that took over a month to resolve after I quit taking it. I think it was a combination of die off and the drug itself.
