Well, I have a very sensitive stomach. [Frown] I have quite an oral protocol to follow, and I'm not all the way there yet. Despite a proton-pump inhibitor (Aciphex) and acid-blocker (Zantac), I still get nausea and pain with meds. Once I was quite sure the antibiotics (Cipro with it) passed through my stomach tonight, I took Tums, and I'm still suffering.

It was extreme tonight. (Oh, and I take the two ABX together because they both need to be away from dairy and minerals, and you should see the rest of my schedule! If I took one of these with snacks, I'd run into a problem when I start Plaquenil. That kills the stomach for me, too.) I've been having nausea at maybe a 2 level since I began combining. (This on my 1 to 4 scale, 4 being about to, or definitely, vomiting.) [puke]

I was at 4 tonight. I took the meds with greasy sausage, and I have been feeling like death: profuse sweating, severe nausea, almost to vomiting, maybe still, chills, terrible stomach pain, and "unborn" burps, you know, agida. Now I will not take them with greasy foods!

I wonder: if it's best to take them with gentle, mushy foods, like oatmeal, how can one cut carbs?! I mean, I'm supposed to cut carbs. I do eat some, because my doc and PA say that some are okay. But I don't want to be subsisting mainly on carbs!

I have found that tuna is okay. I don't want to eat too much of that, either, because of mercury.

Sigh....

The pain is awful still. [Mad] [Eek!]

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Steph

Oh, Dana. I'm sorry that you, too, suffer like this.

I was just telling my husband last night that I would love to take Marinol. I'd like to hear of your experiences with it. It's supposed to be good for pain, too.

Are you on mepron?? Just wondering why you were taking meds with fatty foods...?

Sounds VERY MUCH like a gall bladder problem [or liver]!!!!

A bad GB will go into action when you eat fatty foods. Sounds very much like what you're going thru. I couldn't take Plaquinel either.

Hey, Tutu!

I'm not taking Mepron, though I may be taking Malarone soon. I believe that includes the active ingredient in Mepron.

I wondered about my gallbladder. Hmm. I may need an evaluation soon. I know many have gallbladder trouble, including removal, from Rocephin. I am horribly allergic to that, though, so I never got beyond 14 mgs. And you did read that correctly!

Thanks for the tips!

I hope I can manage the Plaquenil soon. It was prescribed as a cyst buster. I can't take Flagyl.

Doxi did help alot-

Doxi and citrus of any type can make you

Many articals I have read stated for best

Jay: Thanks for the information!

600 mgs. on an empty stomach? Yikes! I could never do it. I'm on 400, and I was told to take it with food: eat a little food, take it, and then finish eating.

I take so many stomach-killers.

I'm sorry you were throwing up so much with doxy. I'm glad you improved on it, though!

Wow, Dana. Those Marinol pills are expensive! I couldn't afford it. I am using credit for cheap meds! My husband and I are in poor financial straits.

I'm taking an unbelievable amount of meds that kill the stomach.

I did not know the product Marinol, and i was curious so I looked up the active ingredient. The active is THC to my surprise, which is marihuana! You probably already knew this but it was news for me.

If the med is so expensive, maybe it is more economical to smoke "a blunt"... ha ha
Sorry, just a joke, probably not funny.

Ciao

I decided that I don't want to pursue it at this time. I used to think that Marinol was basically pot without the THC, but it's just the opposite. It is only THC, synthetic THC. It can make you high, from what I've read, [spinning smile] and it will give "the munchies." [lick] These things I don't need! And I am bipolar. [Frown] and [woohoo]

If it got so severe that I was vomiting frequently (hope that never happens!), I would reconsider. There would be more "pros" at that time.

The company does offer patient assistance in some cases if the person can't afford it.

after my first week on marinal i can say this is the med for me at this time.I know its a sythethic version of pot in it but i did't get the high you get from pot.It just calmed my nausia.Without it i could no longer stomach my meds.I figureed i only need to take 16 pill for my week on abx and week off don.t need to take any marinal. So it will be about 159 $ a month. If you are bipolar i would think twice. This is the med of last resort.I was down to 94 pds and the marinal didn't give me the munchies but allowed my to eat enough to keep my weight up-which i was losing at an arlming rate
best wishes dana

Try an Rx for Carafate/sucralfate it coats teh lining of your stomach. Prevacid and other proton pump inhibitors may be an idea as well. Ranitidine (Zantac) works well too. You can take 300 mg twice daily, or 4 of the 150 mg Zantac OTC. Ginger root helps tummies, as does chamomile tea and taking a break from oral antibiotics and switching to a med like Bicillin LA. Try to eat what you can...chicken soup? Mashed potatoes? Mellow things. Hang in there!!!

I'm happy you've had success with this, Dana!

Wild Condor: Thanks so much for the wonderful tips! I do take Aciphex and Zantac. I may need more Zantac. It was prescribed for allergies, actually, but I know it's an acid reducer. I still get such severe nausea and pain.

I may try ginger. I am allergic to chamomile and PCN/Cephalosporins. I can't take Carafate with some, or most, of my meds.

Yikes. I hate having complications! [Mad]
