I have diagnosed LYME...I take Biaxin, and Plaqenil (sp?) I also take Probiotix and a bunch of other beds, but the Biaxin are really the two newest ones. Im writing because I have a rash that is just getting worse and worse. It started on my back. thought it was acne. then it spread to my legs and feet and now my arms. my face as well. It is not on my hands or toes. It is on my butt but not my neck (I sound so wierd writing this) Like I am playing "I spy)..anyway, It is now waking me up. I thought it was the meds,,I had been on the Biaxin (after being taken off the roceperin (sp?) for a month) for about 7 days before the rash started..its small bumps in some areas (like my face, and larger in others, like my arms and legs and butt) I hate writing that..Butt..anyway..I am bleeding from scratching so much. I called my doc..a "leading infectious lyme specialist in my area" yeah right..he talked to me on the phone for about ..oh maybe half a sec..three days after my inital call to him..he said "oh your fine...not allergice" its gotten worse..called him again this moring and still no call back. Someone rec. this site to me. I thought maybe it was the percocets so I stopped those about four days ago. I thought maybe the carrot juice (about a shot in the morning)..I also I have sparatic issues with diarreah (sp?) its like water. I cant get an. apt. with another doc until oct. 17th.
So, anyone know what this rash is?
I could go on and on with all my other probs..like not even remembering my own phone number or how to spell (see above) but for now..help me stop itching..
tthanx,
Mermaid

Sorry to hear about the itching. It sure sounds like it could be an allergic reaction. I would call the doctor back who prescribed them and tell them you are bleeding and NEED help!! At the very least some cream of something to take. Does he suggest Benadryl to help through this? What I have heard is that it takes 4-7 days for an allergic reaction to appear because you have to get it in your system enough.

Good Luck, I hope someone will listen to you.

I have had a bad case of poison ivy the past 2 1/2 weeks so I truly sympathize with the itching.

Hello Mermaid,
Sounds just like the allergy I get when I take antibiotics. If it's an allergy you should stop taking them straight away- obviously speak to your doc, and quickly.

Last time I took Zithro I got the allergy rash and it took ages for it to go out of my system- I took an antihystemine which really helped to calm the itching down. A cold bath helps too, and antihistemine cream ( only don't use that at the same time as taking antihistemine tablets).

I am taking Cefaclor now which is fine.

I am not a doctor - I am just talking from my personal experience.

Good luck, and go & see your doc- quickly!
Love MMM

Well it could be a reaction to meds and then maybe not. Could be a herx....

I have been suffering itchy bumps for the last 2.5 years. None ever on my face or palms but EVERYWHERE else. Sometimes they look like flea bites, sometimes like poison ivy and sometimes like eczemz (when I scratch so much it bleeds and weeps) The itching is the most intense nasty thing in the world. I have had MANY biopsies that come back with nothing conclusive or worriesome.

My LLMD that I started seeing in May said lyme related definately. I had this all start after multiple tick bites. Possibly bartonella.

I have been on Zith, then ketek/flagyl/levaquin, now ketek, bicillin IM shots every week and tinidizole.

The rash has been my WORST symptom of lyme and its finally down to my lower legs and ankles only.

so I don't know if I helped or confused you more but mine got a little worse when starting treatment and then it has gradually gotten better and better.

one thing is it could be due to the effect of your meds., on the liver. best to error on side of dropping something, and resume sometime later.
ask your doc about this.

Angel I know oh too well about the itching.. I used to have this itch on my legs it is usually prompted by sweating,, I could get the prize for ants in the pants and wriggling on my seat at work!
I now have it under my breasts and in my crotch area, armpits.. and at the crease of my belly where my belly roll slightly overlaps my lower belly roll.. Sorry for being so descriptive...

I started with this itchy when I was a teen I am now 44.. it comes and stay for many months and then goes away for a breif period and then flares up horribly once again.. I fail to find an allergy as the culprit as I dont have anything long term that I have consistantly used that would cause this.. I can say I thinkit si related to the LD... but how and why I can't figure on that one...herxx,, I can doubt that too cause I am not on ABX and I still have it horribly..
it is getting worse with time and never fully goes away. there is nothing I have found to rid the itch.. benydryl can help a bit but how long can you take that??..
I used to use hydrocortizone cream sold at walmart (store brand name cause I used so much of it...)
which used to help a great deal but as years pass nothing helps now..I have even tried using a strongly diluted solution of viniger and water..most recently that helps briefly but the itch agains returns once I get persperation...(oh maybe I am allergic to my persiration.....
now that is a thought)
the solution does seem to take the heat out and cool off the itch for a while,, nothing like washing yourself 10 times a day just to stop itching..
and does taking a hot shower make it worse? it burns when the heat hits ..
can I have a side of Lyme with that itch...????

I have found that the more meds you use the more you will find it a problem... I just wish I could find a way to get health care to get some answers for any of my issues but for now my kids come first my time is limited at this point they have a whole life ahead of them and they need to get answers in order to have more quality to life.. if you find anything that does work please email me.. at [email protected] I may move again and that is my back up email..
my best to you in your struggles with the itchies.
Linda D

Livinlyme,
it sounds like yeast to me for you. It loves the folds of the skin.

Try monistat cream externally and then 3 drops of oil of oregano under the toung daily (chase with water as its hot) and it should help it if its yeast.

I have seen this kind of yeas before.

THe other possiblility is eczema? have you been checked by a dermatologist? eczema likes the folds too.

just a thought,
pattiecake

Hi again...
As to whether it's herx or allergy; just try taking some antihistimine, if the rash goes it's an allergy. Having said that, is herx a type of allergic reaction? I don't know, I only know what worked for me.

Patticake, your descriptions fit my allergy rash spot on... start just like flea bite with intense iching, usually around my back and belly to start off with. I then get itching in other places and when I scratch it comes up in red swollen wheels.

When I took Clarithro and Zithro ( seperately) it was the worst, I had to stop taking them after a week or so- took antihistemine and like magic it disappeared, I can't tell you the relief!!!

[woohoo]
the rash is gone.
i started pro-biotics ...good ones. but i dont know if that was it or not.
i think i was a little hard on my doc. he did say that once i started the meds..things would get worse before better..but the lyme brain forgot.
anyway, i def.thnk it was yeast. it is nice to not be itching all the time anymore.
thanx for all the support.

I've gotten a itchy rash on and off since I started antibiotics this spring. I don't think mine is an allergic reaction though because I did have a bad reaction to bactrim once. I had hives from head to toe, face swelled up like a pumpkin too.
What I get now are small little red bumps for a day or two that itch like crazy, usually when I'm really not feeling well. Then they just clear up on there own.

Nope I tried all of what was mentioned and even the cranberry pills arent helping..everything but the cranberry pill made it worse!

I found an old tube of clotrimazole/ betamethasone dipropionate cream (perscription) that seems to take it out for a brief period and then of course it flairs up a little bit... I will keep trying this as it is not getting worse with it,,, let you know in a couple of days..
if much better or just a joke..

I think this was the script for fungus... not swearing by it..

I hate moving everything but the essentials go in box and then you can't get your life back until all the boxes are unpacked and put somewhere..
