I was diagnosed with Lyme in 1993. It wasn't diagnosed right away and I wasn't treated long enough (about 70 % when my meds ended).
For the next 3 years to follow I had minor flare ups that were treated with orals. However, in 1997 I had a relapse that took me down hard. I was on orals for 8 months and then IV rocephin for 9 weeks followed by 2 months of Ceftin. For the next 7 years felt pretty good. My 1997 LLMD no longer practices (which leads to my complications below).
In July 05 had another relapse. My pcp put me on 4 weeks of IV Rocephin. First 2 weeks (herx big time). I even developed new sypmtoms like tremors and night sweats. But mainly my pain intensified all over.
During the 3rd week of meds I showed small improevements as well for the 4th week. I've been off meds for 10 weeks now and for the first 6 days I started to get worse. Now I am not getting worse or better.
After being on my IV rocephin for 2 weeks I noticed my air conditioner was full of mold and had been pumping that crap into my house.
I guess I'm wondering if it was the mold making me sick or if I'm actually having a relapse! My new LLMD appt. is this Thursday. Anyone have any input on this please??
Thanks!

Hello Rubicon,
So sorry that you have been dealing with this for so long now. It must be very difficult going back and forth with treatment.
I am not in any way a mold expert, but my guess would be that this problem certainly could have contributed to your latest relapse.
One thing that did catch my eye with your SYX was your mention of night sweats. Although this could be attributed to many things, it is also a red flag for Babesiosis. You may want to ask your doc about this at your upcoming apt.
Best of luck in finding a lasting fix! Melanie

I notice you have gone on and off abx over time, using them as symptoms flare. My LLMD explained to me that I need to stay on the same abx consistently or I will become immune to them. Having a "steady" period w/o improvement is better than a decline. I really would give that thought credit because we're always anxious when we don't get better . . . it's natural.
I stay on the same antibiotics year round(3 1/2 years to date) and I have improved tremendously. No doubt the mold has affected you and Melanie is right, night sweats might be Babesia. Many times this is missed in tests.
I wish you well w/your new LLMD. Hang in there, there really is light at the end of the tunnel!
