Hi,
I have started to notice hair loss since I have been on my meds. I am taking 1500mg of valtrex, 200mg of minocyline, and I will be starting 500mg of flgyl. Does ne 1 have any experience with this? Could it be my meds? Before I was diagnoised I threw up for 8 months. I don't know if this is just the after fact of that or a new problem.

Concerned!
Lindsay

Hair loss was/is one of my college age son's symptoms. I was told (when I posted a question about it on this board months ago) that many people's hair grew back as they gained health.

I bet others will chime in with their experiences.

Plaquinel can cuase hair loss also. My hair is so much thinner than it ever was.

I have so much hair I could stand to lose more.

My hair goes through patches of falling out. I started Cefaclor a few weeks ago and I've noticed it falling out again over the last couple of weeks.

It's always been really fine and so I notice when it starts going again- I've been thinking over the last couple of days that I might just go and get it all cut off!

I had lots of hair loss early in my treatment. Didn't know if it was due to lyme or abx.

Hair isn't falling out as much now, but it is changing color, dark brown to red, some areas more than others. This I think is the abx.

I did that after dad died and man did I ever regret it, plus I had to watch my kids faces with that road kill look everytime I entered the room..
my reaction was:
"what's the matter with you, forget who I am?"
they were like "never cut your hair again mom!"
I got the message... I haven't CUT my hair since.. man I am ready to though.. totally baldy!LOL

I've done it!!! I went to the hairdressers today and had it all chopped off. It's short, sort of elfin style and I love it, everyone says it's made me look ten years younger so it can't be bad... and it feels great!

My hair if falling out too. Its awful.. Long strands of it. I take plaquenil and Biaxin. I know it sounds vain, but I have been crying for awhile over this so its good to read your post. I am afriad to wash it too hard or comb it too hard. I find long strand of my hair all over. Its just awful.

i had this when i was taking some meds, but since i started taking Low dose Naltrexone (LDN), i haven't been losing as much.

LDN is supposed to modify the immune system so maybe this is why it might be helping me.

here is a link to info on LDN:

http://www.lowdosenaltrexone.org/

there is also a yahoo group for this topic. let me know if you want this link.

thanks

Losing my hair too. I take bicillin. Started about two months after the shots started and now 6 months later I am still shedding like a cat. Very depressing. However, its a condition called Telogon Effluvian (google it). Can be caused by chronic illness, doink! My skin is inflamed all the time so no wonder my hair falls out. One will not go bald and when the underlying condition is addressed your hair should grow back. In the meantime I just grit my teeth and vow to carpet bomb the bastards that much more.

Hey Everyone,

I am not sure if this was already suggested but I saw a doctor who told me that hair loss while on long term or high doses of abx can be caused by a kind of fungal infection in the scalp. A woman I know uses tea tree shampoo and some other topical (natural) things to combat the fungus.

Check for hypothyroid. Also, near pharmacy counter...look up hair loss in a paperback book called "Prescription for Nutritional Healing" re: which vitamins/supplements to take.

Vomiting might be serotonin issue due to Mg dropping.(Too bad Bendectin is no longer available.)

Diffuse reversible alopecia in patients with Lyme meningitis and
tick-borne encephalitis.

Cimperman J, Maraspin V, Lotric-Furlan S, Ruzic-Sabljic E, Avsic-Zupanc
T, Strle F.

University Medical Centre, Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Alopecia occurring after febrile bacterial and viral infection is a
phenomenon well known since the beginning of the century. To evaluate
the occurrence of alopecia in tick transmitted disease, 23 adult
patients with Lyme meningitis and 71 patients with tick-borne
encephalitis were included in a prospective study and were followed up
for one year. Diffuse alopecia occurred within three months after the
outbreak of disease in 3 out of 23 (13%) patients with Lyme meningitis
and in 40 out of 71 (56.3%) patients with tick-borne encephalitis. The
mean duration of alopecia was 2 to 3 months and alopecia was reversible
in all patients.

[Pseudopelade Brocq--possible sequela of stage III borrelia infection?]

[Article in German]

Schwarzenbach R, Djawari D.

Hautklinik des Klinikums Heilbronn, Akademisches Lehrkrankenhaus,
Universitat Heidelberg.

The differential diagnosis of cicatricial alopecia includes a wide
variety of diseases. A 60-years-old woman was admitted to the hospital
because of an unsuccessfully treated, progressive pseudopelede of
Brocq. Further examination revealed an borreliosis (Stage III). After 3
weeks of treatment with intravenous Cefotaxime (Claforan), follow-up
examination one year later show an complete arrest of the alopecia.
This first description of cicatricial alopecia to be causally related
to borreliosis Stage III extends the differential diagnosis of
pseudopelede of Brocq and offers a curative therapy.

No problems until I started PLAQUENIL. When I stopped, thankfully, the hair stopped falling out. Plaq was not helpful at all for my sxs so I stopped it immediately.
