Asking for a friend. She said her dr gave her flagyl for a co-infection. I've been here 5 yrs and I've never heard it used for that.....but then my memory isn't so good sometimes!! [shake]

Also, would you include your experience with flagyl as to whether or not it caused depression for you?? Thanks!! [Cool]

Some of the docs are using Flagyl with Zithromax to treat babesia. Dr. S in San Francisco is one who advocates this approach. I haven't heard of using Flagyl by itself.

I haven't taken Flagyl, but have heard lots about the depression with it. I did use Tinidazole, and found that did cause depression, but I found it was manageable by pulsing it.

Flagyl kicked my you know what.Dr.you know who would know [Wink] .

I have come along way w/this stuff. At first I could not even look at it w/ out getting the willies.

Over time,I could gradually increase it w/in my regime.

I went from hitting the roof, running around feeling very anxious and having ADD,to now being able to take it and feeling like the ole self.

Good level and sustained level of energy, better focus, better organizational skills.

For me,the first several tries w/ Flagyl had to be stopped. Each try got better, less intense and finally good results.I made sure the family knew it was a Flagyl week. [Eek!]

I could not take it longer than 1 week at a time, then rest, and then returned to it after another 3 week. The blues would set in but would quickly go away once I was off of it.

I knew the benefits of it for cysts form,so I really wanted to continue w/it.The use of short term Ativan for me made it work.I no longer need the Ativan, but it did off set the intense times while on Flagyl.

Good luck to your friend [Smile]

flagyl and tinidazole were a break through for me, the Sx were order(s) more intense on flagyl, than tinidazole.

biggest decrease was in emotional lability; before flagyl i was instantaneously labile, after the flagyl an order of magnitude less so.

Hi tutu -

Took flagyl in January, my doc won't give it to me again. I cooncidentally ended in the hospital with low sodium around the same time. My doc gave it as a cyst buster, which was weird because my nose vibrated for about a month. Alot happened to me in January, so she said she'd rather me not go that route again.

Hope your well and recovered from your bladder. I didn't realize at the time, but gall bladder was the least of my worries with the all the hospitalizations this year (in 3 times so far). Let's hope those days are over and better days for all.

God bless,
Cigi

But I think it's the zithromax that works on the babesia, not flagyl....??

anybody else?

I don't think the Zithromax is supposed to kill the babesia. It is only used with Mepron to prevent resistence. I wonder if they are using it the same way with Flagyl. They do not give Zith by itself.

Lyme too, Isn't Dr C your doc?

He put hubby on Flagyl by itself for babs. Of course with Steve he only lasted about 10 days at 1/4 pill per day (stopped due to exacerbation of neuro symptoms)and then after 3 days of Clindamycin had 3 weeks of severe diarrhea (10 to 15 times daily) before resuming Clindamycin and Quinine for babesia.

The Flagyl raised his eosinophils to 5% from usual 1% and then the Clindamycin and Quinine raised eosinophils to 10% for about 3 months before they dropped back to 1%.

Obviously the Flagyl was killing some kind of parasite -- either babesia (a blood parasite) or some other G.I. parasite.

Also during the 10 days of Flagyl hubby's sweats pretty much stopped as well as most of his eye pain. Cough also pretty much went away with Flagyl.

Yes, I'm seeing Dr C. He gives clindamycin and quinine for babs. I've never heard him say that flagyl is for babs. Maybe I need to go read his handouts again.

I've been here 5 yrs and never heard of anyone using it for babs. Maybe I'm just getting old and decrepit! [bonk]
