After not being treated for Babs for almost a year, I've recently been put on 500 mg. Tinidazole twice a day, and Malarone (one pill) once a day. Doctor said something about hearing about this protocol at a recent conference.

Is this enough? Are these doses adequate?
Last year when I was briefly on Malarone, a different doctor had me on 4 pills a day.

One pill of malerone a day is not enough to do much good against babs. I've heard of 3 tabs, twice a day. This equals 750mg of mepron, since each pill has 250 mg in it. That's considered the minimum dose of mepron for babs. Some Dr's Rx twice this amount(of mepron that is). Malerone is different because of the added drug in it.

That's what I was afraid of. This new LLMD I'm seeing now is SUPPOSED to know her stuff apparently. I don't know what to do. She insisted that one a day is the standard dose.

Plus, my insurance may very well not cover it. (They covered it one month last year, but then refused to cover a refill). We paid for a few pills out of pocket the other day and it was around $8.00 per pill. This is absolutely impossible.

Is there anyone else out there who has only been on one a day?

Anyone who's been on Malarone.....what dose were/are you on?

Thanks

You might get a better response if you word your question a little dufferent to be more specific like: "MALERONE USERS: Need Your Help Please"

You can also add artemisinin on your own. It helps quite a bit with babs.

Hi CLC,

I have been on a pediatric dose of Malarone for over a year and I have been slowly getting better.

(I take two pediatric pills 3x a week)
Lower doses have worked for me. I also take lower doses of Plaquenil and Zithromax along with the Malarone.

Maybe it will work for you too?

Good luck.

I started out on 3 Malarone tabs per day and was to increase to 6 per day after a couple of weeks. After just 3 days I was drenched with fevers, had backache, headache, all the side effects listed.

So, I am pulsing Malarone now. I restarted at 1 pill every other day for 2 weeks. I am now on 1 pill five days a week for 2 weeks. Not sure what will come next.

For me, I am doing much better on the lower dose. If you read the lit about Malarone you will see that 6 pills for 4 days is used prophylactically, then 1 pill per day for about a month or 2 after for actual treatment. This is for Malaria. So, who knows? We are all different. Have to find the right dose for you.
