I'm so confused.
I have often heard that doxy cannot be taken with dairy products. Then, when I was seeing Dr. S in Maryland, he said that that's true for the old tetracycline, but NOT for doxy. So I was eating dairy with it while he was treating me for supposed MARCONS (staph infection in nose).
My current PA says no dairy with doxy. I have been trying to stick with that, but it's not always easy when I take it with breakfast and dinner. I did have cheese with it tonight.
Any thoughts on this?

You can have dairy, you just shoudn't have it with the doxy. Same thing with mag/calcium and zinc supplements. You still need to take them, but do it at least 2 hrs away from doxy, or your doxy will not be as effective. Other meds have similar restrictions like cipro, levaquin and some macrolides. It's easy to check online with Google. Just type in "doxy drug interactions", or whatever drug you want to check.

Thank you!
My PA also verified that I should not have doxy with dairy. Apparently, Dr. S doesn't know what he's talking about here.
I didn't know that it should be spaced two hours apart. I've been told one. Yikes, so much confusion.

Yahoo has a page for Doxy. You might want to click the link and check it out. From what I can see, it says not to take supplements and antiacids, etc within two hours of taking the doxy, but it sounds like they're saying to stay away from milk and dairy entirely, as it impairs the absorbsion of the doxy. Anyway, read it and see what you make of it.

I double-checked the patient information from my PA's office. He's with a well-known and trusted LLMD.
They say that dairy and minerals can be taken within an hour of doxy, either side.
Still, I don't tend to take either within an hour, more like two.
Well, so much for cheese with my breakfasts and dinners!
