I'm starting 150 mg of diflucan today. Does anyone have any comments on it i.e.: effectiveness, adverse reaction, side affects?

I developed a white coated tounge and stomach bloating. Will they go away? How long?

Thanks to all my new friends!

Hi Rubicon,

Diflucan worked good for me, it really helped me get rid of the yeast and I never had any side effects from it. Other yeast meds I have tried killed my stomach.

Yes, the bloating should go away, if it caused by yeast, with good diet..no sugar etc. And Nystatin helps alot too in the stomach/mouth.

My yeast in the mouth would clear up in a few days, just by watching what I ate. If your brave and you have Nystatin pills there.... chew a pill, but it does taste REALLY BAD>>yuck!!!!

Good luck to you. [Smile]

If you remain on the Diflucan long-term, make sure you get blood tests to check liver enzyme levels monthly. Diflucan can cause liver damage. But I've been on it over a year and am fine.

The Diflucan should reduce your symptoms, but you want to follow a strict no sugar/low carb diet to keep them from coming back. As long as you are on antibiotics, you want to starve the yeast to keep it from growing.

Can you chew the Nystatin pills???

Do you know if Nystatin works well also for gut?

I have taken Diflucan before with no problems.

Do a SEARCH in the medical questions for this. There has been many conversations about this.

I've been on Diflucan for about 4 months. My doc office checks my liver count every 3 weeks. They called me about 2 weeks ago and said to stop the Diflucan.

I asked the nurse if it could be any of the other zillion things I'm on and she said it could but Diflucan was the first suspect.

I guess I'll know more when I go in in a week for my appointment. I am also taking a supplement for the liver called Liv 52 but was only taking 2 instead of 4 pills a day.

I like Nystatin for digestive candida. Have also taken Diflucan as well but my LLMD did not want me on Diflucan while on Doxy so we went with Nystatin.

DLL,

You don't want to chew the pills. They are more for the lower Gi tract. They also make an oral suspension that's for the mouth and upper GI tract. It tastes like crap, but it works. Some Dr's Rx the Nystatin swish and swallow because they aren't even aware of the oral powder. The problem with the S and S is that it has sugar in it.

Micul ----

I HAVE CHEWED nystatin pills before for ORAL yeast and it works GREAT!!!!!!!! But tastes like crap.

The pills DO NOT contain sugar the way the powder stuff does. Do some research!

Lisi,

You should read things a little better before you make any accusations. I did not say that the pills contained sugar, only the swish and swallow. (S and S)

You're the one that needs to do some research. There are 3 forms of Nystatin. 1)The powder, or oral suspension for mouth and upper GI(has no sugar),2)the pills, which are not meant to be chewed, and are suppose to work better for lower GI(no sugar),3)and then the swish and swallow, which has the sugar in it.

Just saying IT HAS WORKED FOR ME. So if it only works on the lower GI, then Hmmmmmm, I must be imagining that it cleared up my oral yeast.

By the way --- I do not recall accusing you of anything. [loco]

You also can open up acidophilus capsules and sprinkle on tongue. Doesn't taste bad to me.

I have done diflucan, am off it now.

I have followed Marnie's advice to take 5or6 acidophilus with full glass of water and I think that has helped. I can only bring myself to take 4 because of the expense!
