When pulsing IV Rocephin 2 grams every 12 hours, for 4 days straight, WHEN do you start the Flagyl ? What can I expect on Flagyl ? I use several holistic meds for Lyme but they contain some small amounts of alcohol ! Should I stop them before going forward with the flagyl?
thanks..

Flagyl can make you depressed, or feel dizzy.
Definitely stop the alcohol-based homeopathics!!!!! If you don't, you'll be extremely nauseated.

I've added in Flagyl to my combo for a week of the last 3 months.
I know that everyone, and the medical warnings, say absolutely don't ever do alcohol when on Flagyl. Although a good rule of thumb...I am not so convinced that if a drop of hits your tongue you will become violently sick...that is way too extreme.
Just be smart. I have taken a pill in the AM and had a beer that late afternoon/evening and not had a problem.
If you want to take a supplement with a very small amount of alcohol...just do it WELL away from the last time (and the next time) you have taken the Flagyl. I would verify with your LLMD of course on interactions.
Is it Cat's Claw you are wanting to take?
Again...I can only speak from my experience. You may be different or more sensitive. Just be careful..and know the risks.

While I have taken olive leaf extract with flagyl...and no bad results...anyone on flagyl or antibiotics that is stupid enough to drink alcohol deserves to be sick!
Not only does alcohol diminish the efficacy of the abx's it also lowers the immune system...how dumb can you be Bill!!!!?????
The flagyl I have heard of is used inbetween infusion...like Sat and Sun at about 500mgs twice a day....to break up the cystic forms and then your IV abx will kill the little darling chetes.....

Hi Paula,
My pharmacist told me yesterday that even the alcohol in mouthwash is a problem with flagyl.
Tony,
Hey man...I am definitely not drinking, but have mercy on the desparate. Not looking to pick a fight. Glad you care enough to respond.

I was referring to Bill ATL's advice or lack thereof...
It's just frustrating sometimes to have someone come on the board and talk nonsense...
Sure why don't we just wash down our meds with cocktails ....that ought to help...sheesh...
I don't know maybe I'm just getting a little short lately with folks that are just plain dumb....

I would argue that anyone with a condition such as Lyme should throw at the alcohol completely. Why add more burden to your already overburdened liveR? I don't even drink soda anymore due to my doctor's advice.

The question here isn't about drinking a glass of wine or a martini, it's about using liquid homeopathic remedies that have an alcohol base. I don't know the answer to this but I just wanted to remind you all that this topic wasn't started as a debate about drinking with Lyme.

Yes there Annie dear...
Most liquid homeopathic remedies have alcohol as a base and I realize that was the initial question which I pretty much thought I addressed.
The homey supps probably won't do any harm much the same as some small amounts of cotico-steroids or topical or whatever...
However we are all different and what affects one greatly may not do the same to others....
For me I avoid alcohol when on meds.....sugar,carbs, etc...all very bad for lymies....
But hey...do what ya gotta do folks.....zman

Miss Annie,
You are right. It is a relief to feel well enough to be provoked, but sounds like its a bummer to read. I'm sorry.
Miss Paula, Sorry if I was discouraging. Best wishes and I will pray for you being the sinner that I am for your flagyl. My kids tolerate it so it might not be that hard on you. It is way worth it to me because we take big steps forward even on short non nuclear doses. 250mg 2x a day.
