I know that Rocephin has it's gall bladder problems, which can partially be offset w/Actigall.
All that aside, for those of you who have used one or hopefully BOTH how do they compare. I've read that Claforan is just as good, but don't get that impression from word of mouth.

Yes, I was given claforan for csf-positive meningitis the first time I had it. It worked very well, no gallbladder issues (obviously). I did get c. diff very badly the two times I was on it, but have a propensity for that it appears. It requires more frequent dosing than rocephin (thus the preference for rocephin), but it worked just fine for me. Of course, as with everything, your mileage may vary.

Into the third week of pulsing IV rocephin my son had to stop because of gallbladder problems. He was switched to IV claforan.
The PA he saw this week told him this drug is stronger than rocephin. He seems to be tolerating it well. (But he, too, wishes he only had to infuse twice daily instead of 3x).
Because of his age (22) - Dr. B. recommended the hep-lock (small catheter) that gets put in by the nurse each week - then he takes it out after concluding day four of treatment. It is working well for him.

My son was given IV rocephin for lyme meningitis. He was on it for about five weeks before it was stopped for gall bladder issues that he got.
He was then put on the claforan and about 3 weeks into the claforan Dr J had him stop twice due to herx. When we resumed he developed an allergic reaction to it. He is not on any IV treatments. Dr J just has him on oral zithro.

I finished rocephin then moved on to claforan. The rocephin worked very well for me. The claforan is working even better. I've had to take a break from the claforan due to extreme herxing.
Just my personal experience, but I hope it helps some.
