I see a lot of you posting about abx's. It would help a new lymie if you would tell more about the ones that are used specifically for Lyme. I'm newly dx'd with Lyme but was dx'd with MS 3 years ago after being sick for over 25.

I have recurring UTI's due to the MS so I am on abx's for that on a regular basis mostly Cipro and now Levaquin. Do most of you take orals or do the IV's in a doctor's office?

Check out this website:http://www.anapsid.org/lyme/matthewgoss/index.html

Matthew was a member of lyme net and is now doing well. He stops by to visit now and then.

There is a section on drugs used for lyme.
The section on Biaxin and Zithromax does not include the new drug Ketek. Ketek was not avaiable when Matthew was sick. It is a realtively new drug that has worked well for many. As with all drugs tere are side effects and you should research it before you use it. Anyway, it is called Ketek (generic name is (telithromycin). It is a ketolide wich is very similar to the macrolides (Biaxin, Zithromax)

http://www.ketek.com/home.do
http://www.centerwatch.com/patient/drugs/dru853.html

This should get you started on learning about Lyme drugs.

You can also read (probably should read) Dr. B's guidelines. He also discusses drugs used.

http://www.ilads.org/burrascano_0905.html

Print this out ......... itis 40 pages. Also, it is some of the best info out there.

DOn't get overwhelmed. .... thres a lot to learn ...... keep asking questions here at lyme net.

Robi, Thanks a bunch! [group hug] That was some good info and I printed up Dr. B's guidelines to study. I have his earlier report but it is nice to get the latest. Boy, I sure could have used the Ketek back when I was having the sinusitis and bronchitis every fall and winter. Those are behind me I hope. Now let's get to work on the brain! [bonk] Gabriella
