Ten days ago my daughter had to switch from Rocephin to IV Claforan. About a half hour after each infusion she has an hour or so of nausea. She has not actually vomited. It is mild to moderate nausea. Does anyone else find this happening?
I know with Rocephin it was important to run it slow, over an hour. But with claforan I was told to do it in half an hour. Is this slow enough? Is there a big benefit to running it slower? I wanted others experiences before I call her LLMD.
She is on on 2gr/2 times a day.

I think your daughter and my son were doing gallbladder ultra-sounds at the same time. He pulses claforan Fri-Mon - 2g/3x daily.......and it just takes 30 minutes.
The first days pulsing he was having throat closing problems and used benadryl. (This no longer happens).
When he told Dr. B.'s PA about this she reprimanded him and said they could have mixed the ball/drug with saline to slow the infusing. She felt this would have helped those symptoms.
Check with your doctor to see if this/your idea could help reduce the nausea.

It is already mixed in with 100 ml of saline. Tonight she is going to try to do it over an hour and see if that helps. This morning the nausea was pretty severe.
Did you son stop Rocephin because of an irregular gallbladder scan too?

Yes. He had to stop in the middle of his third cycle of rocephin. The sonogram revealed sludging and some gallstones.
This will be his fourth cycle of claforan.

We slowed the IV down to run over an hour today and she had no nausea, so maybe that is the answer. I feel bad for her, as it makes for a very rushed morning, but if it helps with nausea. Hope it continues to do the trick.

How fast are you running the IV? When i ran my IV Claforan too quickly I got awful nausea. It may be a side effect of the drug, ask your doc.

Hey, that's great that she did not feel sick! Nothing is simple with this disease/treatment.......is it?
