I have been on either Ceftin or Rocephin the last 5 months. Yesterday my Dr. wanted to change me to Ketek.
It rang a bell in my head, but I dismissed it.I took it on a full stomach and still ended up with severe stomach pain and diarrhea all night.
I looked it up this morning and found it is related to many of the antibiotics I cant tolerate.Anyone else unable to use Ketek?
I will be calling my MD today, but would love your input. I am also to start pulsing Flagyl when I am feeling a little better. Thanks, Cindy

The flagyl is a good choice also...for cystic form of the disease....

How long between other abx did you wait before starting the Ketek?
I agree w/ Zman - Ketek seems like a good one! My daughter was on it over a year and made some progress.
I am just starting it now as is my husband. No probs so far (crosses fingers)!!
I've been on some kind of abx pretty much since 1999. Including IV, Im and oral. Yukky poo - but, have made some progress!! Long uphill stuggle!
The only ones I've really had probs w/ are Levaquin and the next one up in that same family!!
If you did switch from one to the other fast maybe try stopping; treating for yeast and resting body and then starting again slowly!
I'm still on 400 mg but am about to bump up to 800 mg! We "ramp" slowly around here and have found it to help bunches!!
TAke care and best of luck!! Sherry
PS - don't give 'em all to the Z - I'll take some too!!! LOL

Ketek is great for Lyme but hard on the gut. Its best to eat a full meal and then take it...good! It ended up giving me c.diff really bad, so I had to stop taking it.

I think part of my problem might be yeast. I am supposed to do a stool test for it this week. My tummy was acting up a little before I started the Ketek, but nothing like it is now.
Unfortunately, I havent been able to take any of the antibiotics in that class before. They all kill my stomach. Back to the drawing board! Thanks for your replies. Cindy

You didn't say which dosage you took, but a LOT of people cannot tolerate the recommended 800mg, even after being on it a long time. You can cut back to 400mg taken 2x day, or take even less than that, until you get used to it.
That doesn't mean you have to torture yourself--nobody could take all these drugs. But it is a powerful way to hit several bugs at once.
Also, I don't have problems with it, but for yeast I take nystatin three times a day, probiotics, and coptis herb extract. Anything less than that and the yeast stampedes.
