I see many have had difficulty swallowing. Has anyone had the sort of click or odd muffled noise when they swallow? And occasoinally it feels like food just won't go all the way down?

THese are pretty mild as symptoms go, but it is un-nerving.

Trouble is, I read that these are classic Lyme symptoms but they are also similar to ALS symptoms, which is freaky. Then once you have the symptom you become acutely aware of any activity in that area, much of which is porobably normal. That just heightens the anxiety. Can't wait to get in to see the LLMD. Oct 25th is my first.

Kenny,
I have had that symptom numerous times. It seems to come and go for me, and I agree it is disturbing.

Dry different textures and temperatures of food and see if you can break the cycle. For me I do better often with warm thickish food and other times things like cold soda water with lemon helps. I also found for me this is a spasm type reaction, so extra electolytes help.

Exercise has also helped my change it around, especailly swimming for a continous spell the build a rhythum change in my system. A long walk may work too. I use long walks to break pain cycles.

I hope it gets better soon, try relaxing and taking epsom salt bathes...

Glad you get to see an LLMD soon! [Smile]

Hi, I have had this as well. I also find textures of food plays a part. I usually don't do crunchy foods and chewy foods as this aggravates the problem for me. I found that soft, warm foods keep it better controlled. I cannot tolerate cold foods or cold drinks. I do luke warm to tepid water.

It is a scary symptom. I too found it was a symptom of ALS and that really put the fear in me. try to find out what triggers it for you. antibiotics, anti-virals and Plaquinel have helped me over the years.

I have also had to massage my neck to get the muscles/nerves to settle down. Good luck. I know there are others on here that have had the same problem. It is pretty common.

Thanks for your imput folks. On a related note, I just found out that these are also common symptoms of anxiety. Almost humorous (but not quite) in that my anxiety over my anxiety produced/aggravated symptoms is making me anxious.

Hey Kenny from PA! Yes, I have had difficulty swallowing in the past along with a sensation of something being stuck in my throat. Hot and warm foods made it worse, but thin foods like soup seemed to make me choke most often.

Wishing you good luck with the LLMD!

Kenny-
I think you and I have the exact same strain of whatever it is. Fasciculations, body jolts and trouble swallowing. I not only have had problems swallowing but increased saliva production. Have you had sharp pains shooting through various parts of your body and/or hot needles?

Hey there. Over the month or so that I've been officially taking notice I have had alot of different symptoms. Most noteable have been the fasciculations, the dazed feeling, some vision issues dating back to last year, a 6 week sore throat in June, a few mornings with a stiff jaw, and yes, some migrating pain and burning in my right arm muscles and tendons and some pins and needles in both hands and my left leg. There's many I have skipped. I have a list of about 20. But the twitching was the primary, followed by the muscle pain. WHen I realized it's probably Lyme I went back through th last year or so and recalled myriad symptoms that fit the bill.

Here's to kickin' their nasty little spirokete a**es out of my body (and all of yours) as soon as humanly possible!

Good healing to all.

I had the difficulty swallowing too, and felt like my throat was constricting. I thought I was having an allergic reaction to a new ABX, but it was'nt. I got re-infected with Bartonella and having had Lyme for 17 yrs, never had this symptom until I believe the re-infection. I also had the body jerking severly, especially around the neck, almost like a seizure. Once I started Bart treament, those symptoms disspated. I would suggest you ask for Bart treatment like I did even though I did not test positive for it. Only Lyme IGM. I did test positive for Babs in the past and treated it, so I believe those symptoms although can be Lyme related, also are Bart symptoms too. My doctor humored me and gave me 2 weeks Avelox and was convinced when I came in to see him 2 wks later that I indeed had Bart, so we continued the therapy for 7 weeks. (although I do not think this was sufficient and going to go back on Levaquin.
Worth a shot to try.

I had trouble swallowing as well along with bells palsy and no gag reflux. There was a discussion here about it all being related to a cranial nerve.

I've been on abx for 2.5 years and all symptoms are much improved. However, I occasionally have trouble swallowing esp. when stressed. So try to relax and know it gets better.
