Hi guys, I've been doing pretty well with abx treatment and am stopping in with concern for a friend's child.

Lyme dx history. Approx 3 yrs ago, the 4 of us (2 moms, 2 daughters) came back from a trip to my families home in Mass. 2-3 days later child had bruise on arm. I'm not one to tell another parent how to parent and feel like she would have been taken aback. I did mention in conversation after holding back for 2-days that it appeared similar to a bullseye and maybe they could ask the doc. Child was dx with lyme and given abx (I don't know for how long).

Child has had double ear infections fairly frequently and has just started school outside the home (maybe her immune system is being adequately challenged in the environment change also). She just came off 10 days of abx for the ear infection and started a fever and bullseye rashes in a couple of places. I saw one on her chest.

Friend took her to ped who said that it was lyme. Friend then took her to dermatologist?

Should the child be on treatment for lyme? This is really scaring me? I have mentioned Dr. J in the past, but I feel like if I try to say anything, the mom would feel like I'm telling her what to do.

Anyway, I just want to share my concern with you guys.

Is it possible that this is a herx that would present itself just because the child has the lyme in her body? and not necessarily has to be treated for the lyme again?

I feel like there is more treatment needed here.

Thanks,

Lymester

Lymester,

Wow, tough spot. Do you think that she would be offended if you gave her some material on Lyme?

I don't know much, but I think she should at the very least be seen again by a LLMD.

Maybe if you just give her some material, that would point her in the right direction. Then, hopefully she'll take her child to an LLMD and you won't have to be in the awkward spot.

I hope this helps until others come by.

Kimmi,

What's funny and somewhat insulting is that she knows I've been suffering with this for over a year now. She knows I've had pain, twitching, flu stuff etc. She has seen me get sick because of it.

Her husband had lyme recently and she was diagnosed w/lupus about 2 yrs ago.

I'm upset that she would take her child to a dermatologist... for allergy testing?

We took the kids with some friends to the theatre this weekend and the other mom had concern about her daughter sitting next to this child who'd thrown up, had a fever and ear pain. so I confirmed with my friend that she thinks it's lyme so not contagious to the other children and she said "no, it's only the lyme".

ugh

Hi,

Denial is not just a river.

Unfortunately, people don't tend to see our symptoms and make the connection for themselves or family members.

This has been the case with a few of my friends.
Makes for and interesting boundary issue.

I vote for handing her information perhaps highlighted to help sort thru.

Also praying.

I have heard that lyme is a little like pornography; It can be hard to define, but you know it when you see it.

Hoping for best outcome.

Susan

Hi Lymester. If the child was diagnosed with Lyme with the first bullseye, why does the mother not think she has it now?

Have her take photos of her rashes, this is important documentation. Place something near the rashes, like a coin or ruler, before photographing to give it size definition. Then she will have evidence of them if needed later.

The rash alone merits treatment. This girl needs to be treated like the pediatrician stated. Besides Lyme disease ticks can transmit several co-infections including Babesiosis, Ehrlichiosis (HME & HGE) & Bartonella, and Mycoplasma. It is important for her to be tested for these because many people who have Lyme are co-infected.

It is very important that this girl gets the proper treatment. We all know what can happen when these infections go untreated or are undertreated. If you do not feel she will take you seriously or hear you without being offended, maybe the school nurse could talk to her or you could send an anonymous letter.

It is great that you are looking out for this child. I hope she can get treated soon.

Thanks for listening and the support. I will be seeing this mom tomorrow and maybe can get a little more insight into what is going on.

I feel when I talk to some people, they begin to just think I'm a member of a cult or that I direct all health suspicions to lyme. It is not how I've gone about this.

I probably felt the same as she might right now, that it's a virus-you take the medicine-it goes away. Anything I've learned was through the past few years and recent pain and desperation to find out what was happening to me. The problem lies in that this is a child who will not be able to express what is happening to her.

I will gently get more info and provide suggestions. Will let you know Friday.

Thanks again

Good luck Lymester. Hopefully the mom will see that your intentions are good and that you are concerned about her daughter. Maybe she would be willing to have her evaulated by a Lyme doctor. You are trying to prevent her from becoming sicker.

Let us know how it goes okay?
