I will be seeing my doc tomorrow, Dr.J(NC). I am having some real bad leg pain, especially calves and thighs. Is there a drug out there that may be usefull in treating this pain. I was told cymbalta was good but not for men. I am curantly taking elavil but it has not helped much.
What about sleep? not sleeping and have not since so called CFIDS/FM hit me more than two years ago. Anyone have luck with lunesta or ambian?
Are LLMDs against taking these meds in that they may mask a herx which is what they all look for?

The supplements DLPA and Inflamma-rest should help with the pain. Also for the sleep you might want to try DHEA and Pregnenalone in the morning, and Valerian root, GABA and Melatonin before bed.

RE; leg pain - I had Doppler test 2yrs ago (failed it) Cardio Doc put me on pletal, also wanted to put me on plavix. The pletal made me very dizzy, but never tried the plavix, heard it is better tolerated. Pletal did seem to help the leg pain. Warmed me up also. Going to try Plavix soon/maybe.
Do you have back pain also, the bad leg circulation can cause back pain also. I have tried everthing for this back pain, the pletal seem to help that also. I am working on getting a HEMEX test do soon and may try a more natural supplement for this. Suggestions?

I am on Cymbalta for nerve pain and it has worked tremendously.
I was getting nerve pain shooting down my legs and it usually started when I would lay down. Within a week of taking the cymbalta the pain was all but gone.
However, I still have the 'aching pains' that I get which cause me to turn from one side to the other at night. I was told the cymbalta only works on 'nerve pain'..

Doxepin is a tricyclic antidepressant that increases the amount of norepinephrine, serotonin, or both in the CNS by blocking their reuptake by the presynaptic neurons.
Given for depression or anxiety.
Very sedating.

I never needed sleep meds in 17 yrs dealing with Lyme cause I would get tired easily after work or strenuous activity, but relapsed this year with symptoms that I thought were stress. May have been re-infected with Bart/Lyme. Insomnia was one of my symptoms this year. I got 8 hrs sleep but it was broken up, would wake up at 3 am, stay awake till 6am, then go back to sleep till 8-9 am. When I went back on ABX more symptoms came out and I coulnt sleep at all. The Bart was causing seizure like body thrusting. I did nto sleep for 5 weeks after trying Valerian Root, a tincture called Comfort Chen by my LLMD. He also gave me tryptophan, but decided not to take it. I tried Ambien, did not work for me, slept 3 hrs and awoke. Was having anxiety attacks as well from Bart, so finally got some Xanax, and finally slept, but my LLMD said he prefers Klonopin. I take .50 mg before bed, and during the day .25 mg. Depending on the meds I am on, I adjust dosage. Sometimes just took 1/8th during the day. You may not need to take any during the day. I dont think I need it that much anymore and eventually will be cutting back slowly to .25 mg at night. Everyones body is different and symptoms, but you need sleep to heal, and I felt I had no choice but to take the Klonopin for anxiety and sleep. It is body addictive, so you will need to go off it slowly.

I've tried various sleep meds over the 2.5 years I've been in treatment for lyme. Getting good uninterrupted sleep is very healing.
I've had to switch out the sleep meds because they either stop working at a low dose (I'd rather switch out than increase amounts) or they have a different effect due to a change in another med I'm taking (abx etc)

After seeing Dr. J last Thursday Dr.B put me on lyrica. She said that the lyrica would help me sleep too.
So, has anyone heard of lyrica? From what I read it is used for diabetes PND. I have a lot of burning pain but most of it is from the waist up, not legs. The pain in my legs does at times burn but really just a deep pain that never goes away.
