For all those who have taken oral high dose zithromax for longer than 1 month...

did you take full dose every day or every other day?

And if you took it every other day do you know if it was because of the half life or because your doc liked to pulse various drugs in general?

Thanks for any feedback!

im on 3x250 mg zith and 3x500 mg flagyl a day. I've been going for 2,5 months. I still have weekly symptom flare-ups but they are weaker and weaker. When my flares go to a weekly cycle i will switch to pulse-treatment. So far it has worked wonders. Im at 80% up from 40% two months ago. before that went 3-4 months of 400 mg doxy each day (im a male weighing appr. 77 kg's and my MD gives 5-6 mg/kg doxy as the best dose). The doxy helped, but nothing near as much as the flagyl/zithromax combo.

I took 500mg 3x a week on and off for aprx. 5 years.

I think that dosage was picked to avoid toxic affects.

I LOVE that drug.

I do 250mg bid (twice a day) zithro, 1 tsp Mepron bid, tinidazole 500 mg bid F-Sun, and 2.4 Mill units L.A. Bicillin 1 time per week.

Does Zithro make anyone else EXTREMELY FATIGUED?

I took it everyday ... and i had several "hits" of it .. like about 4 or 5.. that seemed to help me a great deal along with other ABX that were used to help different symptoms..

when i was put on one abx for any lentgh of time it appears not much headway was made and now i'm here relapsing..after only 4 months off...

we are talking about orals I have never been on IV..unfortunately and if I can get a REAL job before I'm out of the streets, I will see to it that I am IV'ed up right away.. to KICK some Lyme butt!!!
or I will look into the Bowen treatment and see if I can remove my symptoms for the most part..

yes, jloisu, I'm extremely fatigued. I'm also on doxy and rifampin though and possibly still fighting off a cold- not sure.

I'm very curious about how doc's rx this stuff just because it does have a long half life.

2ce I skipped a days dose of zith or only took half dose, that is, after 2 weeks of every day. Just because I do wonder about the build-up. Don't want to do that too often though, not sure if rifampin lowers the half life or what...

livinlyme, sorry to hear that. Do you have bart? Did you do any other ab while on zith?

Zithromax worked really well for me.

I took 1200 mg a day orally for about a year. That's TWO 600 mg pills 12 hours apart. I also took 3-4 Bicillin shots a week with that plus 1500 mg of Flagyl on and off. Before the orals I did 1000 mg IV Zithromax 3 times a week, and 500 mg twice a week. Worked great!!! [hi]

Zithro makes me extremely fatigued. Some days I feel so tired its hard to walk from point A to point B. Other days aren't as bad and resting helps a lot. I'd like to pulse it and will ask my doctor about it when I go this week.
