Hubby has major problems riding in a car for longer than 20 - 30 minutes. It does not cause motion sickness, but aggravates tremors/myoclonus and seizure-like activity.

Sometimes he is ok while we are moving, but when the car stops and he goes to get out he is dizzy and has problems walking.

Other times the vibrations cause increased tremors and he will have seizure-like activity and pass out -- this is while I am driving the car down the road.

This had improved some, but recently has become a major problem again.

Does anyone else have similar problems? Have you found anything that will help with this problem?

Bea Seibert

P.S. When this symptom is acting up he can't ride elevators or escalators either.

In my situations and "car" symptoms, I felt like it had a lot to do with the cabin pressure, much like changes in barometric pressure, heights, the neuro symptoms act up a lot when you are in the varying environments.

I'd replied to a post about feeling more neurolyme prior to hurricane Katrina and felt validated that others responses were the same. I would speculate your husband feels this too.

I could not drive the car with the radio on if the bass was on. I also could not just have my window open. It was like listening to someone beat a kettledrum or like the tires on the car needed balancing.

It is very difficult. I don't have an answer, but some days depending on the weather and lighting will be worse than others. Elevators at work was the worst! I had to hang on to office equipment to stop the movement. I feel it today. More neuro, twitchy, achey. It's been raining here the entire week!

I have had an experience driving to work that I thought I was just going to lose it. I was a shaking mess. I also have had to pull off the road to rest because I felt faint and nauseous. I have read other lymies complain of vomiting when driving.

Don't have an answer, but he's got plenty of company. [bonk]

O yaaaaa most definitely.. when the car stops ...after driving for even 25 minutes.. the car seems to keep going.... ughh scarey stuff.. doesn't make me nauseous(i know i know i can't spell either ) i get a panic attack if this happens.. i am like the other one that just posted to this.. mind gone can't remember the name.. sorry .. but she said she was affected by Katrina.. i KNEW that was going to be a BAD BAD hurricane just from the way i felt!BEFORE IT WAS EVEN TOLD !!!I thought something big is going to happen... I was soooooooooo dizzy... so us lymies should predict the weather instead ...

Yep, I've been accused of drinking at 10am in the morning after a car ride. The biggest problem I have is my hips which feel like I have been riding a horse if I sit for more than 30 minutes.

Of course my hubbie will not stop until he needs to stretch or go to the potty and as he gets older that is more often. [bow]

It might help to keep your legs elevated. Kind of hard to do in a car though. What I hate about this problem is that I don't feel bad until I get out of the car and start walking. It's these kind of surprise symptoms that are annoying to deal with. A few hours later I'm back to normal. On a long trip I stop at every rest area and stand up for five minutes. Recently I drove from Illinois to Toronto. It's about 650 miles so I made several stops just to keep the circulation going.

Could be the chemicals. You come to a stop at a traffic light and you are exposed to a gross amount of toxins. Usually, when healthy, they have little effect on you other then slight aggravation that you may attribute to traffic stress.

I didn't notice trouble with this until my 13 hour car ride from NJ to Sc 3.5 years ago. was sick as hell and ended up in bed in my new home for over 2 weeks just from the car ride.. Then in 2002 I went 9 hours one way to Florida.. Was in bed for over a week once I got there from that ride. Then 2 weeks later when I came home I was in bed for 2 weeks and ended up in the ER on IV fluids.. All from driving in the car...
I have no idea what causes this or why it happens all I know is it scares the hell out of me because I feel like I'm going to die anymore than 4 hours in a car.. I worry because we are planning on moving back to NJ next yr and Im scared as heck of the ride home [Frown]

Not anymore, apart from one rare recent occasion.

Used to feel like I was still riding in the car when I'd got out already...when I was it in I would get motion sick, disequilibrium, just generally felt like I was in the washing machine or something, spinning around.

During flares or active infection, riding in a car will definately affect me. Whether with motion sickness, wooziness, pressure headaches or monocolonal seizures later that night. I have surmised its the vibration on my spinal cord while sitting in the car. I figure the nerves are inflamed in the spinal cord. Most of the time I am ok to drive for long distances. but been there done that baby.

At my worst this used to be a problem, but fortunately it has resolved after 2.5 years of abx.

I considered it a stimulation input dysfunction problem. The reason is that I used to get the same reaction when I'd go shopping in supermarkets, anxiety, dizzy, stomach cramps, nausea.

this is very interesting for me. My son tells me it makes him sick to ride in my car but not his fathers. I keep telling him its in his head. I had thought this because his father says he gets car sick when he rides in the back of the car. Hmmm..... Maybe I was wrong and it really does bother them.

Oh my im so glad i found this board. I just wish, hope and pray i can find a doctor who listens. I cannot drive at all...everytime i do i get sick. I get lightheaded and this weird feeling...i can be a passenger if the drive isnt to long...but that sometimes affects me as well. I have a brand new car, it rides a bit bumpy..will be 30 on saturday...and i cant drive, cant work... Im just glad im not the only one that has problems with driving.
