What would U do In My case an why? I am returning to work and have been out for one year and need to figure out how to explain it w/o scaring away my potential employer? Keep in mind I will be dealing with HR professionals and my only goal is to get the job. Im not 100% but was much worse before I went on leave.
A.) Make up an excuse i.e. "I was starting a business that failed" or something to that nature
B.) Say that I was dealing with a family illness. Which they may be suspicios
C.) Say that I "WAS" sick and now I am very eager to work and return to my life now that Im better.
Please tell me which one you would do (A,B, & C) and why if you would be so kind.

I would just say that you took some time off and have now decided to get back to work. Should not need to explain it.

I had been thinking of explanations to give future employers before I started a home business (to keep relatively cheap insurance while sick). I reached the conclusion that I was just going to tell prospective employers that I had been doing Independent consulting during the gap.
I am a computer professional and I have done onsulting work after a startup I was working for failed and on that occation the explanation worked fine when returning to a normal job.
I am not sure how that would work with your field of expertise but hey, it might work... The good thing is they will never know wether you really did the consulting or not since there will be no need for a reference.

Tell them you were sick and could not work up to your standards so you took the time to get well. Don't lie. When you become eligible for the company insurance, you will want to be covered and will want to tell the truth to the insurance co. when you file a claim. The HR dept should be in a position to go to bat for you if you haven't lied to them. This will apply mostly if you have a relapse later. You should get the job based upon your skill and the employers need, not what happened last year. If they would use that against you, I wouldn't want to work there anyway.
