I noticed this happening 20 years ago before my symptoms started. It also seems to happen more in the fall.

Any thoughts? I take supplements with my abx.

Hair loss can happen any time there is a major biochemical change. As the hair grows out, it is changed when the chemistry of the body changes, and the point of the new growth is a place it can easily break. This is true whether the hair is stronger or weaker.

One thing to check is thyroid, which is a common cause of hair loss. But just all the medications we take can also trigger a change, and therefore the hair to fall out.If it is thyroid, and adjustment in meds, or starting them, can make a big difference.

Hi aliyalex,

Yes, this is happening to me right now. I have been on Plaquenil for over a year, so I don't know if it's the Plaquenil or my thyroid?

Whatever it is..it stinks!

Good luck.

My hair goes in cycles of falling out. When I am really sick it falls out by the handful.

When I posted this topic I had no idea how much attention it would draw.

I guess it is a more common issue than I thought.

Thanks everybody.

This is something really hard for me to deal with, and it seems to be getting worse.

If I shake my head hard, hair goes everywhere... [Frown]

I'm gonna end up looking like these little gremlins!

My hair is falling out like you wouldn't believe and my scalp itches as well. Any of you find anything that helps since this post started?

Hi all,

All through my life I had the issue of my hair coming out in handfuls. When I was finally diagnosed with LD (just last year) and started reading this and other groups, it finally made sense to me.

After I started doing a lot, lot, lot of detoxing my hair started growing back and is now so much better. It still falls out more than it should and it is certainly not like Farrah Fawcett or anything but at least it's much better and has not returned to its previous state. I am very strict about keeping up with the detoxing and it really helps me in a lot of ways.

Hope this helps.

Yep. Although I don't think it is noticeable to others, it certainly is to me. It scares me because so far, through thick and thin with this illness, my hair has remained good. Now I'm scared I am going to have awful hair also.

Hi All, We've had this disscussion before but it's one that does need to keep coming back - unlike our hair!

I recently had mine all chopped off because I was losing it - it is growing back a bit and I now have a funny tuffty fringe...

On a recent trip to the hairdressers I had a chat with my hairdresser about it - he says that it has become very common over the last few years. He has suggested using a product called Nioxin (there's loads of stuff on the net about it) and I've just bought my first lot. I shall let you know the results in a few weeks time!

Whats a good detox? I have Glutathione at home but havent started using it yet. Does anyone know if adding Cod liver oil to your diet can help your hair?? My homeopathic dr says yes, but I want proof!! Im getting my hair all whacked off today too.

I spent the entire morning just crying my eyes out. Of all things to have to deal with, hair loss should not be one of them. Its one thing to be sick, its another to have to really look it to others now. Being female, people arent as kind to you if you are bald compared to if you are a male. Yet even if you are a male, it cant be easy either!!

What I cant understand is why the scalp itch with the hair loss??? Would it be neuropathic?? Im ready to just give up.

I've noticed in the mornings after I wash it, when I'm putting mousse on it my hands are full of hair! Yikes!

I'm on the bio-identical thyroid hormones along with progesterone, testosterone, cortisol, estrogen. Hmmm.............that is a big change but you'd think it would make it better!

Plus, I just started the human growth hormone about 3 weeks ago because mine is really low.

I may have to go back to that NIOXIN. It stinks! You'd think they could make it smell a little better.

For detox, I use epsom salts with added Real Salt in a bath hot enough to make me sweat. The sweating is very important for me because my liver does not work properly. In the beginning I could only do 5 minutes or less because I felt that I would pass out and would become really weak (because I have always had a problem with not being able to sweat). I would take this bath 5-7 times a week. I eventually (over a period of several months) worked up to a 40-45 minute bath.

After two months, my hair started growing back thicker. I still use this bath frequently (I try to do it at least 3-4 times a week) and it has made a HUGE difference in my health & progress.

It is not pleasant to sit in a bath & sweat (I keep room temp drinking water close by), but the benefits are so great for me, it's impossible for me NOT to do it. And when I do miss, I feel worse within the week.
